Greazefest Festival is Australia's longest running 1950's style festival showcasing bands, rock 'n' roll dancing, classic cars and hotrods display, merchandise & 1950's style fashion and Pinups competition. This year's festival was the 25th edition and including those staged in Melbourne in previous years, Greazefest has been staged 27 times in the last 25 years. What an achievement for Lori Lee, the promoter and founder of Greazefest!
As in previous years, Brisbane was bathed in sunshine so it was a bonus for those rockers hailing from the much colder state capitals like Melbourne, Adelaide, Canberra, Perth etc. A fairly large contingent of dancers and music lovers from Melbourne came to Greazefest this year. Unlike Cooly Rocks On where activities are spread over different venues, Greazefest is staged over 3 days, Friday to Sunday, at one central location - Cleveland Showgrounds. But just like Cooly Rocks On Festivals, the bands at Greazefest showcased 1950's style music which range from rock 'n' roll, rockabilly, blues & swing.
This year's festival headline artist was none other than Marti Brom from the USA, whose rich & powerful "classic Country" sound gained her thousands of followers all over the Western world.. Other musical acts came from Melbourne including 'Kid' James, the Detonotors and Benny & the Flyby Niters. Other acts include the Flattrackers from Sydney who are very popular at Greazefest over the years as well as Rusty Pinto from Perth who only recently thrilled Melbourne music fans and dancers with his performance, and now touring the USA. Several Brisbane based bands including Twang, who have toured Melbourne several times over the years, were also part of the multi bands showcase that played for Greazefest this year.
Below are a sample of videos I took at Greazefest showing bands & dancing this year. I hope you enjoy watching them.
