Thread: Dance lessons

    Dance lessons

I was just wondering if anyone can give me a little help on where I can take my daughter to learn how to Rock N Roll. She is 7yrs old and so far all the places I have rang have told me she is too young and that she will have to wait til she is 10 or 11 yrs old. She has her heart set on going to lessons and learning how to dance to the music that she listens to all the time. If anyone can help me with this problem then I'd appreciate it a lot. I would need it to be in the south Eastern suburbs.... Thanks

I know of a little girl who dances at the Gully with her Dad, John. I believe she goes to Foremost Dance School. Details to the left of screen under "Dance Schools". Another way could be private lessons for your daughter? More expensive this way but she would receive intensive, one on one tuition. That way she also doesn't stand out as the only kid in a class of adults learning to dance.

Powerchick - there is a dance school in the western suburbs where the teacher Miriam actually set up classes for younger kids but didnt get a lot of response - still I know she teaches the young ones and is always very happy to have em on board. She just happens to be a damn good teacher as well. Her classes are held on Tuesday nights at the Hoppers Club in Hoppers Crossing and I see she is listed in the dance schools on this site - "Flaming 50's". Ph 97424210.
I know you would prefer closer to home but this class would be just the thing your daughter would probably love - all the best with it.

    Powerchick,
Providing you donÂ’t find a dance school in the interim and if itÂ’s ok by you & your daughter, IÂ’ll be glad to show her some basic steps of rock & roll free of charge. IÂ’m at the Ferntree Gully Hotel every Sunday afternoon from 3pm. IÂ’m one of the guys behind the mixing desk and go by the name of Jazza. Do not get me confused with that tall guy who thinks heÂ’s a rock star.

Good to hear, Jazza. We need more R&R people like you who think outside the square and is always prepared to give a hand for the common good of R&R dancing.

I can vouch for Jazza's ability to dance well. And I have witnessed on at least several occasions his willingness to show R&R dance steps to both the young and the young at heart. Another person who does this regularly is Rob who also dances frequently at both the Ferntree Gully and Monash hotels.

The fact is there are more than a few people who will be very willing to help your daughter to learn to dance R&R. All you got to do is ask. Me included, although I don't think I am as good a dancer as Jazza and Rob.

So please do consider this avenue if you really couldn't find somewhere suitable for your daughter. Hope this helps.

    Hi powerchick

We teach at Oakleigh on Tuesday nights, and we have a good bunch of younger students too. Myself and my partner are both under 25 and we'd love to have her on board.

You can find our details under the Dance schools link to the left, under the 'Alley Catz' name.

Good luck finding somewhere, there is plenty of dance schools in Melbourne, and plenty of great people like Jazza who will get her going.

    Thanks

So again Sam & I thank you all and to AlleyCat, I guess I'll be seeing you on Tuesday night....
