The Victorian Rock 'n' Roll Dance Association (VRRA) held its annual dance championship last weekend at the Hungarian Club in Wantirna South. It was a fully booked out event with about 400 - 500 rockers & their families turning out to support Melbourne's premier rock 'n' roll dance event. Many came dressed in their 1950's style clothing which add to the wonderful nostalgic atmosphere in the hall.

The event also inducted Johnny Phung from the Albury-Wodonga Johnny Rocker's dance school into its Hall of Fame. Johnny Phung was a former Victorian rock 'n' roll dance champion and had contributed over 30 years promoting rock 'n' roll dancing through his dance school plus holding various charitable events over the years. A well - deserved inductee to the VRRA Hall of Fame.

This year's event the VRRDA had Melbourne band, Who Was That Cat, playing rock 'n' roll tunes for social dancing as well as playing live music for selected final dance events such as the premier Adult State Title & the Seniors State Title. It is also very pleasing to again have a number of junior rock 'n' roll dancers competing in various events. This is due to the hard work of Maryann & Grant who have been introducing & teaching young people to rock 'n' roll.

This year, as in the past several years, dancers from Sydney Swingcatz again took out the premier dance event - the Adult State Title. The Senior State Title was won by dancers from Melbourne's Alleycatz's dance school.

It was a wonderful dance event on Saturday night and the VRRDA has done well again. Congratulations to the VRRDA, sponsors, the band Who Was That Cat, the dance judges and competitors and to all those who came and supported the event. Here are some of the videos I took during the night.......
