Much controversy prevailed prior to this Valentines dance by rockers on the border, “will this rockabilly band play too fast”, or “was there a mistake in booking this fast rockabilly band”, all sorts of innuendo prevailed; I tried to allay the worried dancers fears with little success. Our many experiences with Dave, Pete and Shawn (Ignition) have been all good, never a dull moment.
So it was another memorable occasion last Sat 11th Twin Cities R&R Club gave the rockers on the border some full on Rockabilly, from might I say, probably one of the best Rockabilly bands in Victoria. Ignition in true form played to a not so full house of rockers around I estimate 130-150, the music was as expected blo*dy fantastic, by the end of the night and after that well known who can keep standing extra long long of just about every song you can think of medley my feet were just numb so too my legs I think the only reason people thought I was still standing was trick photography and a hologram.
The night was dotted with lots of raffles and spot prizes, and the band gave out many gift vouchers throughout the night.
Rockers danced and danced the floor was pretty much full all night and because the dance was not a sell out there was always room for that extra dancer, I pretty much got the feeling from quite a few of the dancers on this memorable night that the old saying is right “most people will say they don’t like Rockabilly, until they hear the music”.
As expected and we have seen this on many occasions at Rockabilly music venues quite a few people seemed quite content to just sit and listen to the great base beat of that lovely music.
We had a wonderful night and we’re the proud recipients of a gift voucher from the band, and a lucky door prize, we never sat much accept for fluid intake, but I’ve got to admit my perspiration exceeded my intake, and I paid for it 2-3hr after the dance was over, had shocking leg cramps well into early Sun morning and I struggled to quell my dehydration. I figure I was not the only one with this phenomenon.
Thanks to the Commercial Club for the venue and the great dance floor.
Big thanks to Twin Cities Rock & Roll club for their foresight in hiring the band and all those little knick-knacks, Choc’s and decorations for Valentines day.
To Dave, Pete,& Shawn the music was as we had expected top shelf and all danceable.
We had a wow of a time Thanks!!! We’ll see you somewhere soon guys.
Thanks for the kind words gjo267. We all had a blast in Albury on the weekend. It was great to see so many on the dance floor all night even for a 'Rockabilly Band" lol . It was really a well organized event and a fantastic venue. It looks like we will be back at the commercial club again soon for a full weekend and we can't wait. Thanks for everyone who attended and to the Twin Cities Rock'n'Roll club for having us. Looking forward to the next one ..
Well done gjo. You put your money where your mouth is and it paid off. Look forward to seeing Ignition at Albury although I will be one of the listeners these days.
