Victorians once again have done it with open hearts and open wallets. We saw it demonstrated recently with the bushfire appeal. Today, we witnessed the same generosity displayed by a great many Victorians in donating their time and money to the Good Friday Royal Children’s Hospital Appeal. And we Melbourne rockers too ought to be proud in giving of ourselves to such a worthy cause.
Little Maria – we in the rock & roll community are very proud of you and your band of helpers for again organising this year’s Good Friday RCH Appeal. Yes – it was a charity appeal but hey, nobody says one can’t have a bit of fun doing it. And doing it in style it was cos’ it was Flyin’ and it was Jumpin’ & Jiving with over 300 rockers at the Whitehorse Club tonight. The Flyin’ Saucers and Jump & Jive combo delivered the perfect rock & roll & rockabilly rhythms to keep the rockers dancing all through the night with Dave and Sammy sharing the vocals. It was quite an incredible feeling being there – rockers were having fun but doing it for the appeal. I think it was due to a combination of the packed dance floor, the band & its rockin’ music and the lively dancing. It might be a cool night outside but inside the Whitehorse Club, it was hot, hot, hot and a night to remember.
In addition to the raffles and special auctions held, there was also a floor show (by the Romsey gals?) – a special treat indeed for all tonight. The gals were demonstrably hilarious & glamorous in their costumes and dancing all at the same time. The show began with the Alice in Wonderland theme but soon followed by sketches with themes varying from James Bond 007, Abba, Grease, Dame Edna and even a bit of burlesque. It was a funny yet very entertaining show.
Just under $4,000 was raised on the night. Well done Little Maria and to all the rockers who have turned up for the appeal gig, the bands & DJ for donating their time for such a worthy cause and of course the Whitehorse Club.
Of course, there were other RCH Appeal gigs held today such as Suzie’s at Berwick. I was told by a number of people at the Whitehorse Club tonight that the Berwick’s appeal gig was also very successful. I am hoping that someone would also do a report on the other RCH Appeal gigs held today.
