The inaugural Cessnock Rockabilly Shakedown was ripper.
As with any first events, it takes having the first to work out what worked best, what didn't work ,what to change and what to eliminate.
All in all though, it was a successful fun, feel good weekend that has already been scheduled for next year.
The area is beautiful, weather gorgeous. The East Cessnock Bowls Club is not your garden variety bowls club, but rather an entertainment centre. Huge dining area, large entertainment room with loads of seating, gaming and indoor and outdoor bowling greens.
The meals in the massive dining area were cheap, huge serves and delicious. Many venues I have eaten in over the last year would be well served to kidnap the cook for themselves.
Over the road from the club is the footy oval where all the cars lined up and the stalls were located.
People came from everywhere. There were so many people from Brisbane, I thought I was at Wintersun.
I missed seeing Lonesome Train on the Friday night, but heard they were awesome. I did see, the Nitro Rockers, No Brakes, River City Rumblers, Flattrakkers, Benny & The Flybyniters, Satelite 5, Atomic Hi-Tones and a grand finale with all bands. UNREAL and unbelievably appreciated by the audience. All bands have picked up more interstate jobs from promotors who rocked up to check out the talent.
Aaron from No Brakes did the sound and he was just great. Easy to work with and he and his wife would have to be a pair of the best dancers I have ever seen.
They teach dancing in Sydney as well.
Next festivals to watch for - Greazefest (Brisbane), Mildura Wintersun and Chromefest (NSW)
