    Pyalong Dance review

After some comments from other users from Vicrock, I had decided to limit my review posts, but because of last nights Pyalong dance I thought it appropriate to make some type of review, especially after I was told the story of this dances inception.

Early December Mick & Norni organized a dance at the Pyalong Community Hall, the band “Ignition”, the dance went off as per normal & lots of rockers turned up as usual, with these rockers where a couple of blow ins, they had come to see how this band operated and also to have a bit of a dance.

So Sammy De Petro & Jake Schembri had a bit of a feel for “Ignitions” music and Jake had, had some experience with Dizzy the skins player as they had played together in a band called “Runaway Boys”.(For those people who don’t know Sammy, Jake & Graeme, these guys are “Jump & Jive” also Dave, Peter & Dizzy are “Ignition”.) so during the night a little Jamming went on, and it was decided between the band members to put it on Norni to run another dance with 2 bands.

So after 3 months and lots of date shuffling & organizing the 2 bands came together on the Wet & Stormy Saturday 6th at Pyalong's little Hall.

Mick & Norni had spent most of the prior week getting things ready which included cooking cakes & biscuits and other tender morsels to delight your palette at the supper about ¾ way through the night.

When we arrived there were quite a few chrome bumpers displayed in the car park out the front. Norni was on the door, and looking a little over pressured. She mentioned the dance had been a sell out, but then the bands arrived and brought more people. Some extra people had phoned Norni on the day to book in & some arrived unannounced, so seating was at a premium.

I was a little concerned there may not be enough room on the floor for dancing, all things turned out good, Jump& Jive fired up with some awesome rockabilly. A few dancers ventured out on to the floor. The floor was not as it looked, tacky is the word, my shoes were like suction caps, Mick produced the talc it was the saviour, which made dancing quite a bit easier.

It wasn’t long before the floor was full and running hot. Jump & Jive excited the crowd with their awesome music. Second bracket “Ignition” Dave, Peter & Dizzy opened up with the help of the one and only lead guitarist Dillon, now this little guy was a treat, probably stole the night, even though he is probably only 4 or 5 yrs old. Also during the night a jamming session with a lone harmonicist this was brilliant reminded me of Rockbottom James.

About half way through the night I asked a lovely sparkling blue eyed white haired lady, if she would like to dance with me(not sure whether she’s a blonde gone wild with the passage of time or she got caught in the washing machine whilst bleaching some clothes), anyway quite a few of us know her , not mentioning any names of course, . She refused!!, as she has done to me at many dances on previous occasion. I am not sure whether it is my B O or maybe it’s because I didn’t shave for a couple of days or so. She followed me out side and after a short cuddle she said, “you dirty b*****d go and change your bl***y clothes you’re all wet”, now how can a bloke stay dry when the music is so good. Sheila’s have no compassion. They dance us till we’re soaked then tell us to p**s off.

Some notable experiences through the night which was very pleasing, there was no 1/2 hr bracket of progressive Cha Cha.

Next to no line dances and the 2 there was were short and sweet.

The Bands Jump & Jive & Ignition play brilliantly together. Their music & beat compliment each other. Wow the night was probably the best we’ve had for a long time, and that white haired sheila was probably right, my clothes were soaked most of the night, I believe that I didn’t stink, so it must have been the stubble.

The supper was a feast, Mick said Norni was worried that there would not be enough food. After everybody had eaten there was still food left. Mick will be eating cakes for the rest of the week.

So to Dave, Peter, Dizzy, & Dillon we didn’t know you guys, we do now and we’ll be watching for your gigs from now on, love your music. To Sammy Jake & Graeme thanks again we’ll be back for some more of your relaxation.

Mick & Norni thanks guys great dance, we’ll see you at a dance somewhere soon.
