The Victorian Rock 'n' Roll Dance Association (VRRDA) held its annual rock 'n' roll dance championship at the Hungarian Club in Wantirna South last weekend. As usual, the event, being Victoria's premier rock 'n' roll dance competition, was sold out early. The hall was well decorated, and many came dressed in their 1950's rock 'n' roll style costumes.

The competition has several dance categories including events for young juniors and those over 60 years as well as team events and also lifts and non-lifts events. Competitors came from Melbourne dance schools as well as from country Victoria. For the first time in many years, the Sydney Swingcatz which have previously dominated the premier dance events did not send a dance team to compete.

Competition was fierce on the night, and the level of dancing was at a very high level. A dance couple (Matt Grenfell & Nene Wilson) from Johnny Rockers ance School (Albury/Wodonga) took the honours winning the premier dance event - Adult State Title. There were also fun events on the night including the same sex and Jack n Jill which are open to all irrespective of age or dance level.

The Fender Benders played live music for the premier dance events as well as for social dancing during the night. All in all, a fabulous event and everyone has fun on the night. Well done to the VRRDA!
