The Freccia Azzurra Club located on Springvale Road in Braeside is a rock n roll institution in its own right. I was told the venue was started by Lyndon and his Shadoogie band about 18 years ago after the closure of Pitrone's which was then the go to place in Melbourne for 1950's style bands and dancing. And today, it's still very popular with rockers and rockin' every Wednesday night with a... [Read More]
Fast Eddies Poolroom, arguably, has one of the best dance floors in Melbourne complimented by the venue's excellent sound system and general ambience as a dance venue. A very friendly place to visit whether to listen & dance to great bands, have a snack & drinks at the bar or just have a game of pool.
If you are looking for somewhere to dance on a Sunday night, Fast Eddies... [Read More]

Rockers who went along to check out Mitcham Bowls Club dance last Friday night said they enjoyed the venue.* A big dance floor, great music from DJ Adrian, including several progressives and a rock n roll roulette, and a friendly atmosphere.* Around a dozen couples also enjoyed the Cooter cha cha workshop before the dance.
The club has plenty of car parking in a well lit car park... [Read More]
Camp Hollywood is one of the world's premier swing dancing competitions which is held annually in the USA. However, I have noticed that each year it does show case and try to re-create rock n roll dancing and dance scenes from 1950's movies. This year's competition again show cased 1950's rock n roll dancing in all its glory. Here's the video. I hope you enjoy watching it.....
This year's festival was the 20th anniversary of Greazefest. Not only that, with other rockabilly festivals being folded up over the last few years, this Brisbane based festival seems to be growing in popularity from year to year. The crowd is getting bigger with several thousands attendees passing through the gates over the 3 days, and there are more bands playing, including those from... [Read More]

Jonathan & Zoe's Alleycatz hosted their annual Melbourne Open & $1,000 Shoot Out R&R dance competition last weekend. Unfortunately, I couldn't be there to witness it this year but have done so in previous years. From all reports, the R&R dance event was a great success featuring very high level, competition style rock n roll dancing.

I've just been reading a Rock & Roll News from 1996. It's interesting to see the prices of some of the big dances were around the $12 - $15 mark compared with the $15 - $18 price range of today. That's not a bad inflation rate over the past 23 years! I'm sure the cost of venue hire, bands, insurance etc have all gone up a lot more than they were in 1996.
As in previous years, rockers from all over Melbourne came together to take part in the Good Friday RCH Appeal. This is a traditional event that has been happening for many years and it's a way for our Rock n Roll community to show we care. It's a great initiative worthy of everyone's support from the organisers to bands, dancers, merchandise stores, hot rods community etc.
