Camp Hollywood is one of the world's premier swing dancing competitions which is held annually in the USA. However, I have noticed that each year it does show case and try to re-create rock n roll dancing and dance scenes from 1950's movies. This year's competition again show cased 1950's rock n roll dancing in all its glory. Here's the video. I hope you enjoy watching it.....
This year's festival was the 20th anniversary of Greazefest. Not only that, with other rockabilly festivals being folded up over the last few years, this Brisbane based festival seems to be growing in popularity from year to year. The crowd is getting bigger with several thousands attendees passing through the gates over the 3 days, and there are more bands playing, including those from... [Read More]

Hi everyone. DJ Ashley and his wife, Leanne, are household names in our 1950's style rock n roll community. For well over 20 or more years, DJ Ashley has tirelessly staged dance gigs at numerous venues all over Melbourne to cater for our dancing enjoyment. He is well known for introducing new bands to the scene as well as engaging the best Melbourne bands of various genres (rock n roll,... [Read More]
Jonathan & Zoe's Alleycatz hosted their annual Melbourne Open & $1,000 Shoot Out R&R dance competition last weekend. Unfortunately, I couldn't be there to witness it this year but have done so in previous years. From all reports, the R&R dance event was a great success featuring very high level, competition style rock n roll dancing.
VRRDA Rock 'n' Roll Dance Championships - Victoria's premier event to showcase all that we love about our rock 'n' roll dancing, music & fashion. The VRRDA in Melbourne has been an institution specifically dedicated to promoting our beloved 1950's dancing and music and it has been doing a great job in this regard. I've just been reading a Rock & Roll News from 1996. It's interesting to see the prices of some of the big dances were around the $12 - $15 mark compared with the $15 - $18 price range of today. That's not a bad inflation rate over the past 23 years! I'm sure the cost of venue hire, bands, insurance etc have all gone up a lot more than they were in 1996.
As in previous years, rockers from all over Melbourne came together to take part in the Good Friday RCH Appeal. This is a traditional event that has been happening for many years and it's a way for our Rock n Roll community to show we care. It's a great initiative worthy of everyone's support from the organisers to bands, dancers, merchandise stores, hot rods community etc.
What a fabulous event again in Merimbula for the 10th Sapphire Coast Rock n Rodders Festival. It was hosted by Club Sapphire early in March but, as in the last 10 years, it was principally organised by Lyndon & Kerry with assistance from the local Merimbula R&R club. The weather in this seaside holiday town located in NSW South Coast as usual was fantastic with sunny sky during the whole... [Read More]

Gippy Rocks hosted its fifth year of Rock n Roll Festival in Sale last weekend and it was a very enjoyable weekend of R&R music, dancing and competition. The weather was fantastic all weekend. It was also my first time attending a R&R event in Sale. Gippy Rocks is a charity event with all profits going to charity and for a very good cause. Well done to Gippy Rocks....
Despite some pre-event negative publicity and comments on social media about the changes that were to take place for Ballarat Beat, I nonetheless went ahead to attend this rock n roll music and dance festival. I am so glad I went as I had a great time on the weekend listening and dancing to some of Melbourne's favourite bands which included Scotty Baker, Jukebox Racket, Louis King & the Liars...
