    The Rousers in the Riverina

About 45mins drive north of the Vic border, in the Southern Riverina NSW, is a town called Deniliquin, home of the Aussie Ute Muster, the last count I think of utes in one place was 7000 plus, the town also lays claim to the most people in blue shearers t shirts on the main arena which was almost 3000, this nice town was a major centre for wool growing and the Peppin type of merino breed is found in this area.
Also in this town is a lively very active breed of rockers, who every year in conjunction with their local RSL club throw a couple of R&R dances throughout the year.
The RSL club grew out of the years when no poker machine gambling was allowed in Vic, so the Victorians who fancied a little gambling drove, bused, flew and travelled by whatever means to play pokies. This comfortable plush RSL club sports plenty of amenities which includes a well adorned dance hall, loads of good food & a full bar service reasonably priced.
"The Rousers",with special mention DJ Jeff the guy with the red hot mustang, rattled the windows last Sat night for an auditorium full of dance eager rockers who came from far and wide, Deniliquin, Melb, Bendigo, Shepparton, Yarrawonga, Cobram, Echuca, Barham, Albury & Wirlinga just to name a few places. The Rousers were brilliant they picked the mood and played to please, they played well into the weeee hrs of Sunday morning, the dancers followed their lead. It was a great dance I am sure everybody had their fill of R&R & dance
Mid morning was the "wake up Rockers" breakfast for the subdued at a little cafe in the main street .
It was well worth the effort to swell the dancing numbers in the RSL at Deniliquin. It will take about 5 or 6 months for the club to get over this onslaught and then we again will boost the numbers for the next 2 days dance mid year.
