I believe that sometimes people come into our lives for a reason, and two such people are John & Heather Jarman aka C.J and The Babe, also effectionately known as the "Dancing Doc`s".
Anyone who has been involved with competition rock and roll dancing in Victoria, Qld or the VRRDA would know of John & Heather. They were Victorian State Tilte Holders in 2000, and VRRDA committee members with John being President and Heather head Judge in 2001. They were official judges this year at the competitions held at Epping.
They were both instrumental in forming the `Lakeside Rockers` rock and roll club in Sale back in 1996, and because of their passion and dedication to the 50`s rock and roll music and the dance revival, and the respect that they generated from the local community, the Lakeside Rockers grew to heights unprecedented with a membership of 350 in 1998, which was unheard of for a revival rock and roll club. The club is still going strong. John & Heather were the clubs rock and roll dance teachers until they retired in 2005, but had returned as the teachers six months ago.
The upsetting and sad news is that Heather - `The Babe` has been involved in a hit and run accident while out doing one of the things she loves, riding her pushbike. She was hit from behind by an unlicensed motorist driving a stolen car. She has very serious injuries and is still in I.C.U. and we all pray for a full recovery. We know it will be a long road ahead but pray that her strong will and strength of charactor will pull her through.
If you have any old or recent photos or videos of the "Dancing Doc`s" could you please forward them to the Lakeside Rockers , P.O Box 9056 , Sale 3850.
We would like to compile a DVD to give to Heather to help her on her road to recovery. These will be returned to the sender. Thank you.
will pass on your best wishes to the Doc`s. Heather`s injuries are too many to mention but as John says "A lesser person would not have survived such terrible injuries. Her strength and level of fitness, and her attention to keeping an exemplary lifestyle are the biggest factors why she survived this crash". She is now out of the induced coma and is off the ventilator which is a big step, so we pray for a full and speedy recovery. Many people have offered their support and prayers. Any well wishes can be sent to Heather at the Royal Melbourne Hospital.
The members of the Victorian Rock'n'Roll Dance Association committee were shocked and then terribly sad to hear about Heather; such a vital and positive person.
Heather is lovely in so many ways. On top of that she has made a real contribution to Rock'n'Roll dancing through the Lakeside club and with the VRRDA.
It is great to know that she is beginning the long path back to us. Our thoughts also go to John (Dr Rock) at this difficult time.
Members of the Rock'n'Roll community, please take a little time to beam some positive energy to Heather for her recovery and to John for support.
Thankyou for this topic JiverJ.
It brings to light a true tragedy in the VicRock scene and the strength of the ‘Dancing Doc’s’ to see it through. No multi-band fund raiser to cure a hiccup here … just brute love and determination by some true-blue rock & rollers.
I do not know these people JiverJ, but your post suggests they are fair-dinkum fighters. I wish C.J. and The Babe much love, good spirits and all the luck in the world to see them through these troubled times.
Live & let Live, Love & let Love, Rock & let Roll, plus related clichés.
I don't know John & Heather personally but have heard alot about their wonderful contribution in promoting all things associated with 1950's rock & roll.
My best regards & wishes to Heather for a speedy full recovery.
Sad to hear the news of Heathers accident, but I hope that she recovers and is able to be back around the dance screne again,I hope John is managing ok.
We are all so excited. Our prayers have been answered. The Babe`s bouncing back. Heather`s strength is shining through, she can give little nods and shakes of her head to simple questions. She is moving her legs more independently, she is recognising voices and faces. Will soon be eating by herself. She will have formal rehab assessment on Monday. She is now making real progress, it will be a tough road ahead but we know she is one tough lady. Our thoughts are with her and John through this difficult time but we know she can do it.
Ourlove and best wishes go out to heather and john. I have found some video footage of the both of them dancing at one of my first gigs in Lismore to the convertables plus stills of her in the local street festival. Heather and John were movers and shakers in Casino and we were all sad to see them leave for Sale only to rejoice as they spread the word about dancing. All heart goes to you both.
Thanks Jimmy Ray for your well wishes and kind words. I`m sure John and Heather appreciate them. This Saturday 13th February, the Lakeside Rockers in conjunction with Sale combined cycling groups, are holding a `Be Active For Heather Day`to show her our support during this difficult time. This day is gaining momentum and we expect many of the Babe`s friends and associates to turn up to show how much they care. Heather has a long journey ahead of her with her rehabilitation and we are hoping this special day will give her the motivation to work hard to get through it. There will be much dancing in the street with entertainment, Classic cars and Hotrods. A DVD will be made up on the day and also of the Lakeside Rockers Valentine dance that night, where a lot of Heather`s favourite rock and roll music will be played. Heather was passionate about being active, and rock and roll music and dancing has been a big part of her life as you well know Jimmy. It is also Heather`s birthday on Valentines Day. Anyone who knows Heather is most welcome to attend at 10.00am at the Sale Mall.
