Dirty Boogie Band at Daveys Bar

Praise the Lord! What a wonderful way to end the weekend with the Dirty Boogie Band!

Sure, the sky was overcast & darken clouds were threatening outside. The drizzle has come and gone but the chill remained in the Frankston air. But once you stepped inside the Daveys Bar this afternoon - it’s like a different planet you have landed on. No, not quite like Mars but more like been transported back 50 years in a time machine to the birth place where Swing meets Rockabilly meets Rock & Roll. That’s how I would sum up my encounter today with the Dirty Boogie Band at Daveys Bar in Frankston.

I haven’t been there since it has been renovated. What a fantastic, lively place to meet up with friends to enjoy a drink & conversation and being entertained in live music surrounds. And if you are a dancer, you would be in dancing heaven with an even larger wooden dance floor now. There’s also a large balcony fronting Nepean Highway where in summer, you could catch the passing traffic and enjoying the warm sunshine with the cool sea breezes gently rolling in from Port Philip Bay.

I wasn’t surprised at all that there was a huge crowd at Daveys today. Great party atmosphere! Great music! Great band! Baby boomers and Generation XY were mingling happily everywhere. The dance floor was putting up “no vacancy” signage all afternoon, crowded with rock & roll dancers and Ministry of Swing Lindy Hoppers. Not all danced of course, as many were just happy partying with friends, having a drink or two and enjoying the fantastic sound of the Dirty Boogie Band. That’s the marvellous thing about the swing/Rock & Roll live music scene – the punters are there just to have a good time. You just don’t seem to get the angst and violence that besieged our city streets on weekend nights.

With the Dirty Boogie Band, one gets the complete package of entertainment - Setzer ‘s swing, Straycats rockabilly, swing blues and even a small dose of 1930’s Big Band swing & Bill Halley & the Comets. I simply love this band. Well, I am a bit addicted to this 9-piece rockin’ & swingin’ band and, not just because of the two very pretty singers on stage.......LOL. With brass & their big swingin’ sound, one could groove and dance to their tunes all day long. Really, how could one not be happy listening & dancing to its music. The band genuinely exudes fun & excitement on stage - it’s like experiencing one big party atmosphere and all having a good time at Daveys this afternoon.

Live music and entertainment are alive on the Mornington Peninsula. Check it out if you haven’t yet experienced it. You would not be disappointed with what’s on offer on a Sunday arvo.

what an amazing sunday it was!! I, too, had not yet been to Davey's since the renovations..... it was great before, but its even better now [however, a few little things i could rant about, but thats neither here, for there for a public forum.].... huuuge dance floor... and it was PACKED. ... !
I had not seen the Dirty Boogie Band in quite some time..... I love this band doin' what they're doing [playin' what theyre playin'... swingin' what they're swingin'... etc.] and its always refreshing to rock out with them.
