Big Thank You to Tassie Rockers from Jump & Jive (Melb)

Jump & Jive (Melb) would like to thank Tassie Rockers for having us play for them once again at St Ailbes Hall in Launceston. Steve & Jake headed off in Steve's heap with all of the equipment on the boat, while Sammy, Graeme & I caught the plane the next morning. As usual we were warmly greeted by Daz (Tassie Rockers) who took us to the hall to set up.

After setting up and running through a few songs with Barry Pilkington (Tassies own Blonde Hair Pop Star), we took off to our accommodation at Penny Royal Hotel & Apartments. If you're planning a holiday to Tassie, check this place out; its close to the stunning Cataract Gorge and Tamar precinct. It's an ideal place from which to explore northern Tasmania. You are literally surrounded by history when you stay in one of the well-appointed and beautifully refurbished hotel suites. There are also apartments for those who prefer to be a bit more self-sufficient.

Back at the hall that night, the joint was jumpn with people from all over Tassie and as far away as Albury/Wodonga dancing the night away. Jump & Jive did their own thing, then backed Barry Pilkington for a few songs to take people back down memory lane. This guy, in his day, had performed with many of the greats, including Johnny O'Keefe and at 70, he still rocks the house. In between sets, DJ Gazza played a few tunes and before we knew it, the night was over.

It was raining all day Saturday but the sun was shining on Sunday and we all made the most of the photo opportunities before we left our accommodation that morning, after a beautiful cooked breakfast at the hotel.

After a walk through the streets of Launceston, we joined Daz, Wilma and others from Tassie Rockers at the Cruzin In The 50's Diner at Deloraine; another "must see" if you're visiting Tasmania. The Diner boasts one of the largest private collections of petrol memerabillia & collectables in Tasmania. 50's style booth seating & tables, rock n roll music (even in the loo) and a Juke Box at 20c per song, all over-looking an English box hedge garden. If you love old-style 50's food & drinks, then you'll love this Diner.

After lunch, we took in a bit of the local scenery, then went to the Launceston Blues Bar where they were having their Xmas function. We relaxed and listened to the music for a few hours before heading off to the airport for our flight back to Melbourne. The weather was kind to us for the trip home and as we neared Melbourne, it was like a "fairy town" of twinkling lights, well worth the late flight home.

Once again, we'd like to thank all those involved for having us and we look forward to returning to Tassie, maybe early in 2013. Keep an eye out for details re our next visit folks, it's hopefully going to be for about 10 days, so if you're planning a holiday in Tassie, come join us and you can sight-see & dance your way around Tasmania.
