Howdy folks! Longgonebaby and I are currently in the USA having a real wow of a time. We had 3 crazy nights in Vegas with more time spent at Toby Keith's I Love This Bar and Grill, in Harrah's Casino. I achieved my mission: found a cowboy. In fact, we did the 2 step and cowboy jive with some real live cowboys! Fancy that!! They drink their bourbon from a mason jar down there, so when in Rome........
Headed up north then to Pittsburgh where we got our fill of rockabilly and went to a hotrod show at Bullskin County. I kid you not, that's really the name of the place! Met some more great people into the same thing as us.......hotrods and hot music! We just barely escaped being dragged into the pinup girl competition and hung around enjoying the band and all the great cars for the day.
Leaving Pennsylvania we've been on the road now for a couple of days and we're just shy of Memphis where we plan to see The Dempseys play and then onto Nashville for four more nights to play cowgirls. Tonight we’re in Jackson, Tennessee and tomorrow we go to see the Rockabilly Hall of Fame. Longgonebaby has been there last year, but I haven’t, so I’m looking forward to it.
After Nashville we head to Reno for Hot August Nights, a 10 day car event of which we'll see 4 days and nights. Check it out: www.hotaugustnights.com Then another 12 days or so cruising the roads from San Fransisco down to San Diego where we will see Big Sandy and the Flyrite boys along with Hot Rod Lincoln who opened for the Stray Cats.
Oh yeh! Forgot to mention earlier that we went to Costa Mesa to see the Stray Cats play live. What a venue!!! Outdoor amphitheatre seating 8000 people and it was full!!! They put on a great show and we were blessed to see these endangered species in their own habitat. Let's hope the show downunder proves as entertaining and enjoyable as the one we saw in Orange County!
I tried to upload the pics but seem to be having some trouble, with it taking ages. I’ll try again at a later date.
Great to see The Dempseys still gigging in Memphis -good band, great town for music. We saw them back in '00 at The Elvis Presley Club -dunno if it's still called that? Have a great time guys
Thanks Sue, we're having a wild ol' time! Here is a clip of the Demseys for Steveo. They have the craziest act you've ever seen and the bass player is just manic. It has to be seen to be believed, the energy these guys pump out. They are a regular crowd pleaser as Blues City Cafe on Beale St in Memphis.
We are currently in Reno heading for Tahoe in the next couple of days. Had a helluva time getting to Reno with our plane cancelled, slept a night on the floor of Nashville airport, next plane diverted thereby missing our connecting flight, and 3 standbys in Chicago before we got a flight to San Fransisco and back to Reno. 37 hours and 4 airports! We were certainly frazzled!
Never fly United Airlines, it's the only one we've had trouble with (domestic).
We haven't really encountered too much dancing as yet apart from the Cowboy 2 step. We are now on the West Coast, down from San Fransisco, heading towards LA. Everyone tells us that that is the place to get rockabilly music and we are hanging to hear some live stuff and have a dance.
I've got some more pics of our trip and will load them into a new topic so as not to make this thread too hard to load on slow computers.
Hope all is well back at home. We hear it's cold back there. Currently the day time temps are in the 90s here.
