    VRRDA Hall of Fame Inductions

After a two year delay due to Covid, DJ Ashley plus Jonathan and Zoe from the Alleycatz were finally inducted into VRRDA’s Hall of Fame to celebrate the huge contribution and their dedication in promoting 1950’s style rock n roll music and dancing. Well done and my congratulations!

DJ Ashley, for many years, was legendary as the promoter of venues in Melbourne for live music and dancing. His most successful venue was Fast Eddies which was the go to place for great music and dancing on a Sunday night. He selected the best Melbourne and interstate bands to play at his venue and gave opportunities to new up and coming bands to perform as well. Before that, he was involved in doing DJ work not only at various venues in Melbourne but also inter state like Wintersun and various South Pacific rock n roll theme ship cruises spinning those great rock n roll tracks that we just love dancing to. Ashley was also involved in staging several gigs dedicated towards charity such as the Good Friday Charity and Bush Fire dances. Finally, Ashley was well known for taking and sharing thousands of photos and shooting many videos during the many gigs at his venues and other places.

Jonathan and Zoe have been involved with rock n roll since they were teenagers competing and winning several Victorian rock n roll titles. Their Alleycatz dance school is probably the biggest in Melbourne, if not the whole of Australia teaching hundreds of dancers every week in rock n roll dancing from beginners to advanced levels. Their signature “8 Weeks Wonder” dance course was immensely popular and the students went on to perform live in front of hundreds of patrons at rock n roll dance gigs. Jon & Zoe ran a very successful rock n roll clothing and shoes merchandise business for many years before selling it to another owner which is still trading today. Finally, Jon & Zoe have been very successful promoter of gigs over the years including staging the Si Cranstoun Australian tours as well bringing several big interstate bands to play in Melbourne such as the Lincolns and A Band Called Twang. He also promoted his own Melbourne $1,000 Shoot Out dance competition which was very successful. What an immense contribution over many years from Jon and Zoe indeed.

Well done and well deserved, DJ Ashley, Jonathan and Zoe......
