To encourage some ‘new blood’ into competition Triples, the Committee of the Victorian Rock’n’Roll Dance Association has added a new event for the 2010 Victorian State Rock'n'Roll Dance Championships – Adult Novice Triples.
The 2010 Competition Rules state, "Entry in the Adult Novice Triples event is available only for Triples combinations who have not previously placed first in any Adult Triples event."
Triples (some call it Doubles) is for any combination of three dancers. Most combinations seem to be two women and one man but I have seen at least one competition trio of two men dancing with one woman. It could even be three women or three men (or three something else if you can find them).
Triples is a Lifts Optional Event; so “entrants may execute as many lifts, jumps, sweeps, dips and throws as desired or no lifts at all”.
Now is the time to get a trio together and have a go. And it is a great way to involve an extra person in competition.
Entry forms and other information can be downloaded from www.VRRDA.org.au.
Champs Not Competing
The other part of this story is that the reigning Adult Triples Champs, John Hallifax, Judy Donald & Lee Walters from Colac R’n’R Club, are not likely to be contesting the Adult Open Triples event this year. I hear that two thirds of the combination are supposed to be overseas in May.
The pic is John, Judy & Lee in the 2009 Championships. This is one of the stack of pics still available from Morrie Mathews. Morrie is expected back again this year. Check his site www.morriemathews.com.
