Love Hope Strength

Brien McVernon, singer and guitarist from The Retro Rockets will be climbing Mount Kilimanjaro in Africa along with Slim Jim Phantom and 28 other musicians at the end of this month.

Each musician is raising US$14,000 for Love Hope Strength Foundation, an international cancer charity dedicated to providing support for cancer centres throughout the world. The 30 musicians, cancer survivors and supporters will make the pilgrimage to Uhuru, the 19,341ft peak of Mount Kilimanjaro, to raise funds for the main cancer center in Nairobi, Kenya.

McVernon got involved with the music-orientated charity after performing with the Stray Cats drummer in New Zealand. Part of his fund raising actions in 2008 included having the Love Hope Strength Foundation’s logo, comprised of guitar, wings and snakes tattooed on his upper arm. Now that's commitment!
