Melbourne musician Jackson Moon releases his new CD based on classic Rock'n'Roll songs. Cleverly named "... never heard of him", Moon plays tribute to his musical roots through a selection of songs from the 50's and 60's Rock'n'Roll era. Recorded in his Melbourne studio, this 11 track CD features some fine guitar playing, vocals and arrangements. Moon is deft at this caper, being an experienced performer, multi instrumentalist, recording engineer and producer.
The CD opens with the thunderous 'Train Kept A Rollin', featuring an almost frantic vocal and 'kick in the guts' guitars. This is pure Rockabilly. 'Too Hip, Gotta Go' and Pietro Pistole (Peter Gunn) feature Jackson's newly acquired Gretsch Black Phoenix guitar, a huge bodied arch top with a tone to match. Cliff Richard's "On The Beach" is given some nice treatment courtesy of the vocal harmonies and a very 60's sounding Fender Stratocaster.
Sam Cooke's 'Wonderful World' is relaxed and laid back, with a fresh arrangement, nice harmonies and a cool guitar solo played through a vintage Fender Telecaster. Ditto 'Atlantis', an old Shadows tune. Perennial favorite La Bamba opens with that familiar riff and chorus with Moon's arrangement sitting somewhere between Richie Valens original recording and Los Lobo's version from the movie soundtrack.
This wouldn't be a Rock'n'Roll CD without a Buddy Holly tune and Cryin' Waitin' Hopin' is an interesting choice. This track personifies Moon's playing, singing and production abilities. 'Sleepwalk' is given special treatment, predictably, as this is one of Moon's favorite tunes. Jackson makes good use of his Gretsch 6120 on this track, where the big full tone of this beautiful guitar comes into a class of its own. 'Americano' explodes with a Big Band feel, courtesy of Damian Smith's brass and drum arrangements This song, originally written in Italian for Sophia Loren is sung in English and Italian. Nice touch.
The CD's final track, 'Up On The Roof' showcases Jackson's love of vocal harmonies. The orchestral arrangement adds a fine touch to this classic track and the outro guitar solo played on a Gibson 335 completes the listeners journey.
Jackson's vocals hold well throughout the CD. The lead vocals and harmony arrangements are creative. As a guitarist, Moon's style remains faithful to this magnificent era. If you are a fan of 50's and 60's Rock'n'Roll and want to hear something fresh, you should like this CD.

Nice one Jackson. I was sold on sleepwalk and the rest of the sound bytes are impressive. We purchased the cd from your web site. Are you performing anywhere? Are you from Melbourne? Are you single? (that's my wife asking)
