Congrats to Adrian and the dancers from his classes for putting on a Rock'n'Roll dance demonstration at the Knox Council's Stringybark Festival this weekend.

I heard good things from the Festival Director and from people at the Festival.

The season for Council festivals runs from around now until Easter next year. These events provide R'n'R clubs and dance schools a great opportunity to promote their organisations and to let more people know how much fun R'n'R dancing really is.

Check your Council's web site for festival info and have a go. Festival organisers will be really happy to hear from you

It can be a solid buzz to put on a demo. You get to show off what you have learned and it taps into a new supply of potential members.

Don't tell anyone but the bonus good news is that your routines and moves do not have to be all that flash. The majority of the audience have no knowledge of R'n'R and will be blown away just watching you loop and spin in time to the music. The fancy stuff is a bonus.

The main points are:
- Agree on a dress code so you look like an organised group (doesn't have to be matching bowling shirts and petticoats - just make sure you look like 50's style R'n'R),
- Have flyers to hand out so interested people can find you later (ask the Festival to print them for you),
- Get the audience involved in something simple so they can be part of it. Get them doing "step, step, back step" in time to the music or "Stray Cat Strut", or, if nothing else, even clapping in time to the music.

Make sure you take photos and show us how it went on Vic Rock. The VRRDA would love to have pics for our web site too.
