I see the Monash (great little venue) has the Moonee Valley Drifters listed for action this coming weekend. I have not seen or heard this band - can any of our forum contributers give me a hint as to what lays ahead ?
Hi Shane The Moonee Valley Drifters are a very good Cajun Zydeco band.. Very, Very good, think of them as a pot of Gumbo laced with Tabasco. Tom and the boys will have you sitting there going.. what th..... these guys have been around for a very long time...Oh and yes you can dance to the Music if thats what you do
This is the second time that The Mooney Valley Drifters have been labelled as Cajun????? Hey Shane, If you want Cajun / Zydeco, do as Robe suggests and donÂ’t come to the Nash this Saturday night. But if you wanna see a group of talented musos who lay down some of the sweetest western-hillbilly-swing with a Syd King overlay, then come on down to the Monash Hotel and boogie with us.
This band played the Gully early March with a stand-in lead guitarist coz their regular guy was involved in a car accident en route to the FTGH. When they fired up, their sound was so fresh & uplifting with a rhythm that made you wanna MOVE. I thought, if these guys were this good with a stand-in lead, they gotta be better next time I see them. DonÂ’t listen to Robe, thereÂ’ll be room for you to dance mate. But if there isnÂ’t, weÂ’ll still have a good time anyway.
:P
Live & let Live, Love & let Love, Rock & let Roll, plus related clichés.
I have their LP from the early 90s, a great western swing sound with Tom Forsell originally from Texas driving the whole thing. It is very danceable stuff, which is what western swing is all about. (I did hear them do an excellent Zydeco version of Louisianna Man last year, but thats about all the Zydeco thay did)
Next 4 band night at the Monash 21st July just happens to have
the Starliners and Moonee Valley Drifters on the program, along with the Detonators and the Atomic Hi-Tones.
