    Another vote for Ben Puglisi!

    Thumbs up Re: LUTHIERS

Luthiers are essentially makers of a guitar or instrument as against someone who is a qualified guitar repairer/setup service.

Maton will custom make any guitar - acoustic, electric or bass,. Also, try Belman in Thomastown and Jim Cargill (son of Merve) .

Stewart Male was a friend of mine as well, very sorely missed. Paul Gale at Soundworks does excellent work - he looks after ALL my girls now. He's fast, he's a Fender agent, and a great guy. A double thumbs up from me. Oh yeah, he's in Ringwood - I'm in Croydon ; nice n close. Regards.

Mars McMillan in Queens Parade, Clifton Hill is a great luthier but she specialises in Harpsicords.
Jim Kieth in Balwyn Road, Balwyn is another and I know that he makes guitars and other stringed instruments. Jim has a very good reputation and has made guitars for quite a few well regarded players.

Another bloke who is into electric guitars is Jim Hilbebrant in East Bentleigh.

You should be able to get some names from thes folk if they cant help you personally. If you contact any of these buggers tell them hello from Graham and Vonnie. It won't get a reduced price though.

can't go past James Cargill in Seaford for any sort of Guitar work, be it Bass, Acoustic and Electric, his dad Merv was doing it since 30-40 years ago i think, and now his son James is the Man, knows his stuff and they are always flat out,

i highly recommend him to any one

    Make and Repairs Double Basses.

    Also +1 for Soundworks.
I cant speak for any instrument repair work but I did take my GK700 Amp there on Tuesday Morning and picked it up on Wednesday afternoon. They did a great job and so fast! (Sorry, I know that is not Luthier related but thought they were worth a mention just the same!)
Bass: WestGearman Hofner; Strings: Clef Guts; Rig: GK700RBII & 410SBX Cab.

    Re: LUTHIERS

For double bass I have found the Nick Fyfield at Bows For Strings in Glen Waverley is hard to beat.

A great bloke and provides a very good service.

I had him do a bit of repair work on my Helle's Belle bass and it was A1. I followed that up by buying a hybrid bass from him. He and his guys set it up just how I like it, with quite a flat fingerboard. No dead spots, planed and polished to perfection.

I took the bass back to have a custom endpin fitted and it was done A1 also.

Nick always finds the time to do a good job at a fair price.

Bows for Strings is my choice.

    Matt
