    Greazefest Brisbane 2017

What a fantastic weekend of glorious sunshine, and even hotter bands, music, dancing, hot rods and Pin ups. All that and more at Greazefest which was staged in Brisbane for the 18th year running. I think, and many would agree with me, that this year's event was probably the best and biggest by far. With overseas acts supported by some of Australia's favourite rockabilly, blues and 1950's style roots bands it was more than what one could hope for or wish to see in a 1950's style music festival. All in all, a very enjoyable weekend and I 'm sure there were some very tired rockers come Sunday night after over-indulging from all the fun activities and dancing.

Greazefest is staged and promoted by local Brisbane rockabilly icon, Lori Lee along with her band of loyal supporters. It was staged at Cleveland Showgrounds in Brisbane's southern bayside suburb and well supported by the local Redlands council. The venue is just perfect for staging such an event with fashion shows, bands and music under cover and therefore ideal for any occasion including the possibility of an unlikely inclement weather. It has bar facilities and a large outdoor area for merchandise and food stores. Hot rods and kustom Classics cars display are out in the oval. Effectively, this means attendees have access to all areas and activities within walking distance.

Highlights for me has to be the overseas acts (Eddie Gazel from France and Pike Cavallero from Spain) and local favourites including Benny & the Flyby Niters, Detonators, Twang, Lincolns, Little Billie, Flattrackers, Koffin Rockers, Rusty Pinto and the Walters. It was great also to catch up with large contingent of inter-state visitors especially from Melbourne, Adelaide and Sydney. And the big turn out of general public attendees just love watching the bands and dancing and of course, they enjoy checking out the classic cars, hot rods and Pin Ups competition.

Greazefest Brisbane is definitely an Australian iconic 1950's style music, fashion and classic cars festival. Brisbane's sunny & warm weather is a great place to seek refuge in winter so do plan to attend next year's event if you are wanting a great time. Here are a selection of videos from this year's festival ......
