The Straycats need no introduction and in fact are synonymous with our rock & roll / rockabilly scene since the 1980's. It continues to thrill thousands of fans around the world whenever they are performing together. The Straycats toured Australia a few years ago, and in Melbourne the band played at the Forum theatre in the city. Lee Rocker the band's bass player also toured Melbourne on his own and I remembered seeing him performed to a full house at the Corner hotel in Richmond.

Slim Jim who is Straycats original stand up drummer, is of course no stranger to touring Australia. He has performed regularly in various venues and festivals over here in the last few years. It was great to catch his performance again this year at Broadbeach Blues Festival on the Gold Coast. As with most festivals, the Blues Festival in Broadbeach doesn't just play blues music. There is a variety of music genres on offer ranging from blues to jump blues, swing, rock, pop and like Slim Jim a bit of rockabilly too.

Slim Jim was supported by Dizzy Hudson and Jake Schembri who are members of Melbourne's rockabilly band, the Strays. Slim Jim Trio certainly didn't hold back and thrilled thousands of people who crowded the open stage in one of the main streets of Broadbeach. The band played several of the classic Straycats tunes in addition to covering old favourites from Eddie Cochrane and Gene Vincent. It was classic rockabilly performance at its best. If you love rockabilly, make sure you attend one of Slim Jim's gigs when he next tours Australia.....
