What a great event, and a huge crowd not just rockers turning out in force but also receiving big support from the general public. I estimated there were several thousands patrons on the day including many families having a great time last Sunday in Brisbane. After all, it was promoted as a family-friendly event.

Redlands Rockabilly Revival was held in the Cleveland Showgrounds after a fairly successful debut last year. The event is sponsored by the City of Redlands comprising of southern bayside suburbs just over half hour drive from Brisbane CBD. The event showcased hotrods & Kustoms Classic cars and there were two football fields of cars on display. There were rides for the kids, food vendors, merchandise stalls, 1950's style hair and make up and a Miss Pin Up competition. Five local Queensland bands took turns to entertain the crowds of which Twang & the Little Billy band are frequent visitors to Victoria. Not all the bands are of course rockabilly bands. There was a 1960's "surf" band (Lovejoy Surf) as well as a country rock/blues band (the Haymakers). Good mix of music for the dancers and non-dancers alike.

I just think it's fantastic that local councils are jumping on board to sponsor local music festivals and in doing so supporting lifestyle events that all including families can enjoy together. In Victoria, we have the Shepparton Council supporting the "Shepparton Shake Down" and other councils supporting festivals of other music genres such as blues and Jazz. Wouldn't it be great to have more Victorian councils supporting rock & roll festivals.
