Well, why charge a small fee to play, thats why you keep getting the jobs, and no one else can evan get a look in, and no one wants to pay what they should be paying.
As long as I get 95% of the jobs you can have the rest. is that your motto .

The only way we have prospered is.

    promote cut the price
    promote cut the price

    promote. cut the price

    As Danny Said:
help out here and stamp out this stupid behavior.get on vic rock and promote your bands tell everone
( But dont cut your prices, please.)

So what is "THE PRICE THEN?"

For what it may be worth, the fees paid to bands has lost real value over the years. Observation of the local market in the hotels and dance halls would be that it's generally a buyers market. This means the buyer generally sets the price and the seller falls in line or stays home and watches tv. The price is cut by the buyer and those wanting to perform accept. So if you value your skills and ability to perform what is happening makes little sense. Is it not smarter to select the gigs you do and do them at your fee? Performing many gigs for little money is certainly not for the thinking musician but is fabulous for the promoter

I will not stoop to let my group play for $450 and $500 its a bloody insult, just like anyone else, we are intitled to a fair days pay, the staff at hotels get $30 and more an hour.we love what we do, maybe I should do what Lyndon is doing, start a new venue, but working full time its not easy.

    Re:new dance

This thread has gone on for more than long enough, I feel. Started off innocently enough with Danny promoting his new gig but just as quickly the thread went completely off tangent with matters raised including issues about the band’s popularity, debates about the top 5 R&R bands, busy bands and what constitutes a good band, questions asked about “authentic”Rockabilly music and bands, request for feed back on a certain band’s DVD and now questions are being asked about what is a fair reward for a gig and the ethics of competing for gigs including undercutting other bands. And in between, questions asked about forum contributors such as Millie and Cliff.

I donÂ’t know about you but I am finding it most confusing trying to follow the original thread. However, it is quite evident from the various comments made that there are a number of topics worthy of being raised as separate threads. VicRock welcome your contributions on the various topics if you wish to take the opportunity to do so. Thank you all for your contributions on this thread.

Good luck & best wishes, Danny to your new gig tomorrow at the Hampton Bowling Club.

This thread is now officially closed.
