    Walk Around, Idiots!!

Thumbs down to people who try to walk across the dance floor. Particularly people who get annoyed when dancing couples get in their way.

And a huge Thumbs Down, accompanied by a foot up the arse, to selfish fools who not only try to walk across the floor but attempt to do this carrying drinks.

These events a not called "dances" for no reason. We go there to keep alive an historic art form: Classic Rock'n'Roll music and real Rock'n'Roll dancing. The "dance floor" is for dancing and for dancers.

If the music and the dancing is not important to you - go somewhere else. If you are there to enjoy the music and the dancing, please, walk around! And, even around the edge of the dance floor give way to dancers. Thank you.

    Re:Walk Around, Idiots!!

The edge of the dance floor is where I usually dance. And it\'s a pain when the pedestrian traffic just doesn\'t seem to stop. I try to avoid walking around the edge of the dance floor myself, but I must admit that some venues arrange the tables so that it\'s a real trial to thread a way between the tables and chairs. I think someone will eventually be hurt or drinks will go flying when dancers and pedestrians collide heavily. I wish the organisers would rope off the dance floor or something so that the dancers and those walking past don\'t come into conflict. As for those who try to walk accross a floor.........you said it all Malibu.

I agree with Malibu and Steve that there's no good reason why someone should walk through the dance floor when dancing is in progress. Particularly when carrying drinks at the same time.

I, like Steve, have taken to dancing around the edges of the dance floor quite a number of times, not by choice, but merely to find some space when the floor is packed. Regretably I have on occasions collided with the odd person walking by and sometimes holding drinks. No punch ups took place - thank God we are more civil nowadays! Which brings me to the point - I believe those who walk along the edges, when dancing is in progress, have a "duty of care" to watch out for the dancers to avoid any collision. I think dancers already have their hands full concentrating on the music, their next dance move, avoid colliding with fellow dancers and "whatever else" his (or her?)eyes may be focused (feasting?) on at the time. He doesn't need to concern himself with passing traffic or the possibility of colliding with someone else. Steve's suggestion of roping off the dance floor is a solution. Can I suggest also arranging the "furniture" in such a way that a clear foot path is created between tables away from the dance floor, along with a gentle reminder to all dancers and patrons on the danger of collision every now and then. Spot on.

The floor at the Micawber is small enough but there are frequently people trying to take a short cut through the dancers.

Last year we were at the Bass Hotel to see the Rock Mobsters. A great show which was wasted on most of the drinkers. People were wandering across the floor all the time, and they were getting irritated when a dancing couple got in their way. At one stage I came out of spin to be face to face with a goon carrying three pots in one hand and two in the other. Luckily I just missed him.

Walkers please go around and not across the floor, and when you are close to the edge of the floor please give way to dancers.

    Re:Walk Around, Idiots!!

I always thought it was common sense to walk around the dance floor, wait for a gap between the dancers and where the person passing is headed and move through quickly to avoid bumping, or worse tripping, people who are dancing. It\'s courtesy. There is such a thing as dance floor ettiquette. I also can\'t stand it when ignorant people stand on the edge of the dance floor holding drinks. If they spill their drinks, it makes the floor dangerous to people who want to dance. I agree with the thumbs down on this topic.
