When I hear that bands like Atomic High Tones and Rockin daddys are going all over the country doing gigs, I ask myself why are not all the other bands doing the same thing.
I can see that this band is going places, I think things would cool down in Iraq if the band went to play there.I can see the head lines in the papers.
Rockin Daddys do it all, peace is now on the way in.
I will declare this first - Rockin Daddys are one of my favourite bands, they play genuine Rock n Roll and have a great sound and beat that is easy to dance to. I agree with cliff that the band is going places and I wonder why they can get gigs in Barham, Geelong. South Aust, Queensland, all over the eastern suburbs of Melbourne yet their appearances in the west and north west are few and far between ?? I see they have the Mitisi club on the 27th and Alley Cats in Sunshine on the 3rd which is great but I have to wonder why a couple of other operaters on the north/western side of town wont give them a go ??.
I agree with tggsb why donÂ’t all Promoters and Venue Operators give all Bands A fair go even Bands from Interstate or are they too, Selective these days or donÂ’t recognize talent in/outside of Victoria.
IÂ’m trying to bring a Band down from Queensland next year in March, but some Venue Operators donÂ’t wonÂ’t to know.
The Band I’m talking about is The BobKats who played at Wintersun this year, and have been to New Zealand to the Beach Hop 2006 returning in 2007, are on the B list for Viva Las Vegas 2007. They can play Rock’n’Roll or Rockabilly; currently have a CD out “Red Hot Rocket”
Great talent of International recording artist Duke Wilde on guitar played with FlaminÂ’ Locos.
Nelle E Bean the only female slap bass player in Queensland has a Sponsorship with The Bass Shop.
Chops McFudd on Drums/Vocal, sets the pace and foundation for that BobKatabilly Beat.
The BobKats are a hard driving Rockabilly 3 piece with clear riffs and sharp cuts.

It all in the Jackets. Only the bands that wear matching jackets do the north, north west.
I think the Rockin Daddys need to get matching jackets with leopard skin trim.
G'day Kempy. Re: your comment on giving interstate bands a go. I'm all for that mate. Like a lotta OZ R&R / Rockabilly bands trying to break into interstate gigs, what are they prepared to work for? Example: in Melbourne, a band that has international fame through touring and CD sales can be placed into a pup like the Monash or Ferntree Gully hotels at X dollars. Are the BobKats willing to fly down for the same or would they want 2x X dollars? ......... if thatÂ’s the case, promoters would shy away. What I'm getting at, is that, interstate bands themselves, need to put in a great deal of work & forward planning in their interstate touring (2 to 3 months) and securing multiple gigs with promoters, coz of advertising etc. so the best deal can be sorted. A recent and successful deal was made with The Creepers during the upcoming John's Rod & Custom weekend. "It's a long way to the shop if you wanna sausage roll". And wally Â…Â…Â… you are a WALLY.

You know if someone actually talked to Rob or us we could get the ball rolling. "Are we prepaired to do what? We payed our way to NZ!!!! Ok we are headlining with Retro's next year but we still had to promote...
We have had 100789 hits on our website since Jan 1 this year. Our CD is played by over 30 community stations Aus wide. We have a contract for 3 months in Dubai. We have work in Japan / China coming up. So please do not tell us we need to try harder we are. How about your support? THIS IS NOT A HOBBY
Bands come up here. They get airfares / accom/ car / backline supplied / and $1500.00 to do a show. We supply everything and don't get half that. "Cause your the local band" Gee Wilikers.....
Here is the deal. You pay the airfare and accom we can work the rest out for promo value, ball is in your court Victoria...
Matching Jackets? Wally your a dill, when you know your facts make a worth while comment otherwise shut it. And as far as a fair go goes, i hope this also applies to all venues! not just north or west... and Jazza yep matee $ is what attracts interstate- O/s bands here, frankly I can't see the $ coming their way, as someone said there's no money in R/Roll just good times with good friends. Out.....
Maybe some bands are happy playing locally?
You dont have to play all over Australia to be a "Top Band".
We have the best bands in Australia in Melbourne.
BobKats should contact the chick my mates band in Melbourne is working for. She is running a big Hot Rod show. She asked the bands if they'd do a deal for her in return for good payers in a pub she runs.
The bands are doing it where they get to split the profits. The more successful the show, the more they get. The down side is if its a flop, they mightnt get much. But it doesn't matter because of the other work shes thrown their way.
A win win for all.
The BobKats could do something similar to get some action. Promotors are probably worried about losing, but if there is no risk, they might be more inclined to make an offer.
We are always prepaired to look at every offer and idea. We are a pro active band. but I will ask for all contact to go through Rob @ 3NRG he is our man in Melbourne.
Hi Wally,
Mate just need to let you know. I don't run a Pub!!!. Yes I am involved with the Monash on a Friday night, this I do for the love of it no pay but a lot of pleasure in seeing people come together for sum fun and entertainment.

Strangely enough we can get gigs in Sydney. But we hold the Melb scene in higher regards. Not crawling but Vic has always been the engine room of Aussie music, all styles.
I remember years ago before it burnt down going to the Ferntry Gully for a show and dinner dance. Then Sat to the Keys for a band then Sun arvo to see someone else at the Pier Hotel Frankston always lots going on down south.

A very cramped place indeed when Melbourne bands have to fight for every opportunity to get gigs themselves week in week out. But Bobkats has laid down a challenge to Victorian venues and promoters ..........
But selfishly as a patron, I welcome every opportunity to see new bands including those from interstate. Full credit to the Monash and the Gully for bringing in new bands in the last few months, and more in the near future I am sure, that patrons ordinarily would not get to see very often this side of town.
