    A new dance for 2014

Great news!! A new venue for Little Maria's rockers has been found at St Johns Parish Hall, 494 Maroondah Hwy, Mitcham, starting on Fri 10th of Jan. So mark the date in your diaries for next year, spread the word that we have a new dance venue and lets keep the tradition of the past 13 years going. Further details to follow.

Hey Joceb - is that Lt Maria's dance at an alternative venue or another dance started by other rockers? How's the dance floor there? Big, small, good, OK ? Parking etc?

Re: A new dance for 2014

Little Maria is going to help out with some of the dances with Milton and Sue, but has had enough of setting up and packing up after all these years. The dance is being put on by Milton and Sue from Flipside Productions who have run music trivia and dances for many years. They have a huge collection of original video footage of all our favorite songs, many rarely seen before. For the first few dances it will be music clips on a giant screen with a great sound system, and then if all goes well they will add bands as well. Milton is happy to take requests so everyone can email him their favorite songs so you can see what the band looked like while you dance.

Hopefully all the Little Marias crowd will support the new venue so the dance can continue with all the familiar faces for another 13 years. I've heard word that the Whitehorse club, after chucking Maria and all of us out, are planning to do their own rock n roll dance. I for one won't be supporting them after the underhand way they have treated us all.

And Yes it's a huge wooden dance floor, BYO food and drinks, plenty of parking and the hall is upstairs. Roll on 10th of Jan.

Milton and Sue are planning to run this dance on the 2nd and 4th Fri of the month and if the first one goes well will include a band at each dance, so come along and support this new venue and help continue the great atmosphere of Little Maria's dances.

St John's is a great venue, of similar size tot he Whitehorse Club, is airconditioned and has plenty of parking in the primary school grounds. The entry is via Elizabeth St (where the pedestrian overpass crosses Maroondah Hwy), the hall is upstairs in the building at the rear of the school, and is less than 10 minutes drive from the Whitehorse Club. And it's BYO food and drinks!

Milton and Sue will be at the next Little Maria's dance so have a chat and let them know which bands you'd like them to book and what your favourite songs are.

Lets get together and keep our great fortnightly Fri night dance going!

Re: A new dance for 2014

Milton and Sue, with assistance from Little Maria, have worked hard to find a new venue to show their huge collection of original video clips, and to provide a new home for Little Maria's dancers and the bands. St John's Parish Hall in Mitcham, starting from Fri 10th Jan, will be the place to be every 2nd and 4th Fri of the month. So now many are asking ... "Who is Milton?" Hopefully the following will answer that question.

Milton is a music collector, archivist and music historian, with a huge collection of thousands of original music video clips that he wants to share with Melbourne's rock n roll dancers. Milton started running music trivia nights in the 1980's, which started his continuing hunt for video clips from around the globe. He has provided music and video clips on the giant screen for many parties and dances over the years, as well as the trivia nights, and has recently run several sing-alongs at the Sandbelt hotel after painstakingly adding lyrics to many of the clips. He also provides a rental sing-along DVD service to nursing homes.

In the mid 1990’s, Milton was introduced to Ronnie Burns, helping him with a number of shows, and continues to assist Ronnie with fundraisers for his Children’s foundation in Tassie. Milton was then asked by Johnny Young to manage his archive and did a number of GO Shows with John, Normie Rowe, Buddy England and Marcie Jones. He subsequently received a lot of calls from “Old Rockers” wanting to know if he had any footage of them, but sadly only seven episodes of "Go!!" survived and less of "Uptight" and "Happening", all safely preserved in Milton's huge video archive. He has the only known “Kommotion” clip in existence.

Darryl Cotton, became a close friend and they did a number of fun projects together, and it was a huge honour when he asked Milton to put all the visuals together for his funeral and later Darryl's memorial concert at the Palais. Milton has recently provided footage of Tina Arena on Young Talent Time for Dancing with the Stars, Music Max & Sunday Night on behalf of John Young. Milton continues to scan the globe for clips to add to his huge collection of original music video's from the 1940's to the present day. Many older clips have never been seen in Australia before. The latest addition is Kay Starr’s “Rock and Roll Waltz” albeit an abridged version from the Perry Como Show, and The Tune Rockers performing “Green Mosquito” from 1958. Milton recently did a fundraiser dance at Seville with Matt Shore, and everyone loved the vision of all their rock and roll idols on the giant screen.

At the St John's Rock and Roll Dance, Milton will set up a 3.0m x 2.4m screen and show some classic rock n roll clips from his collection during the band breaks. The dancers will have the opportunity to choose from a large selection of original clips from the 50's and 60's. If you have a favourite that you like to dance to, let Milton know, it can be from later decades, just send an email Milton@flipside.net.au. And if you have any questions you'd like answered about anything to do with music, then Milton's your man as he is a walking encyclopedia of music history.

Now you know a bit about Milton, make sure you make the effort to come along and see some of his unique video collection. You won't be disappointed. Make sure you book as I believe he already has several table bookings.

Re: A new dance for 2014

Last minute change of venue due to the lack of enough chairs and the difficult acess for the bands at St Johns in Mitcham. The new dance, "Flipside Rock n Roll", run by Milton and Sue, with assistance from Little Maria, will now be held at the Hungarian Club, 760 Boronia Rd, Wantirna. This is a huge venue with plenty of car parking, easy access and is just off the freeway. It has a big stage, with plenty of space for the bands and the giant screen, is fully airconditioned, has a brilliant floor, lovely toilets and kitchen, and best of all they want us there every 2nd and 4th Fri of the month, (except for Fri 31st Jan which is the 5th Fri)

So starting on Fri 10th of Jan with the Rockin Daddies, Little Maria's dancers have a great new home to continue the Fri night tradition of good music, good friends and plenty of dancing. So it's goodbye Whitehorse ( thanks for kicking us out) and hello Hungarian Club and the new "Flipside" dance.

Flyers to follow and will be handed out at Little Maria's on Fri night. Milton already has several table bookings so give him a ring or send an email and reserve your spot at the new dance.
