It was another very enjoyable night of rock 'n' roll music and dancing last Saturday at Peninsula Rock held at the Rosebud Italian Club. This time we had "Flashback" with Michael Boyd taking over on guitar and lead vocals after Danny (his dad) passed away late last year.
Danny Boyd was a legend in the Melbourne rock 'n' roll scene who was much loved by many rockers & dancers. So it's heartening to see Michael now taking over the baton to continue the rock 'n' roll tradition started by his father over 35 years ago. The band now has new members in its line up including Darryl Riddell (ex Shadoogie) on drums and vocals. Seeing Michael on stage, one can't help but see some similarities between him and his dad as both exhibit strong vocals and performing a wide range of rock 'n' roll songs. Michael also sings some of Elvis's classic ballads which reminded me of Danny who also loved singing these at his gigs. The band certainly plays the type of rock & roll music that gets you off your chair so you could dance all night long.
It was a top night out for me. I'll be back at the Rosebud Italian Club for the next Peninsula Rock's dance with the Vincents on 7th July. Top marks again to Terry & his crew at Peninsula Rock for another wonderful night of rock & roll music and dancing.
