Camperdown Cruise 2011 is on again in two weeks time, from Friday 21st - Sunday, 23rd October. It was a fantastic event that I attended last year, and from what I know, Arthur & his crew are aiming to make this year's cruise bigger and better headed by an international act, Miss Mary Ann from Holland, and a huge cast of rockabilly and rock & roll bands from Sydney, Perth and Melbourne.
Camperdown was buzzing last year with hundreds of hotrods & Kustoms classics lining the main street, merchandise stores galore, live music and dancing throughout the day and at the Clock Tower in the centre of the town, 1950's fashion parade, live music for diners during lunch time at the pub and climaxing with a huge dance and showcasing of live bands at the two rock & roll and rockabilly venues.
Bands playing this year include 3 bands from Perth - Rusty Pinto, Johnny Law and Harry Deluxe, Sydney bands include Pat Capocci and Danny & the Cosmic Tremors and finally Straight 8's, Hank's Jalopy Demons, Benny & the Flyby Niters, Tommy & the Lucky Strikes, Jump & Jive, Ignition and Billy & the Headliners are amongst the Melbourne bands that will be there for your entertainment. And there's even more bands - just visit the web site & check out the program - www.camperdowncruise.com
Other activities included on the program this year are dance lessons in rock & roll and rockabilly, dance competition and dance demo from the Colac Rockers. With a shortage of hotel/motel accommodation in town, the organisers this year have made available camping and breakfast facilities at the footy oval. So accommodation shouldn't be an issue for those who want to spend the weekend there.
It should be a fantastic weekend, so pack your 1950's gear & dancing shoes and have a great time at the Camperdown Cruise 2011!
Have just come through Camperdown today and even without the hustle and bustle that is generated by the Cruise it is a nice town for a visit. Last year's Cruise was well worth the trip, and this years program looks to be bigger and better. The band list is impressive, and there is going to be an extra marquee band space, so even more opportunity to enjoy the music and dance. Looking forward to it.
Dance like nobody's watching. Love like you've never been hurt
