Smile Jump n Jive at the Gully

Golly! “Jump n Jive” had the Gully jumpin’ and rockers jivin’ with their debut gig tis arvo! I have not seen the band play before, so the venue exuded anticipation and excitement in the air as the punters turned out in drove to welcome the band to the Ferntree Gully hotel for their very first time performance there. And what a performance it was! I could quite safely say many punters, like myself, all left the “church” tis arvo feeling fully blessed having danced and worshipped at the alter of the rockabilly music gods.

Jump n Jive is a three piece band with Sammy on guitar and lead vocals. The band played a good mix of rockabilly and rock & roll favourites including some of their own compositions. Yes – there were some pretty fast tempo numbers to challenge those dancers with fast feet but in the main I would say one could “jump & jive” all day long to most of their songs.

And, what could one say about Sammy’s own performance? Well, whilst not exhibiting a stance as suggestive as Elvis the pelvis, nonetheless Sammy’s stage performance has a fairly eye catching “gyrating” style. Just ask the ladies ……..LOL And the man can sing! And I have seen him dance very well too. Isn’t that right, Hotrodgirl or for that matter, Foxy?

Jump n Jive band is a welcome addition to a very long list of bands that have performed “live” at the Gully. If variety is the spice of life, then we punters in the Gully are indeed fortunate to be served with new & exciting bands from time to time. I certainly hope we won’t have to wait too long before we get to see Jump n Jive play the Gully again.

Re: Jump n Jive at the Gully

Good one Jitterbug, another superb review. Jump & Jive were the main reason why the ‘Gully’ punters had another exceptional afternoon. I must add that drummer Graeme Goss is no slouch on the vocals either. And what about young Ashley on Double Bass who not only looks the part but has a go on lead guitar as well.
The afternoon had a real party feel to it with various muso’s mixing it up on stage. Good friendly stuff to see. Guests included: Dave ’Bolto’ Poulter and young Jake on double bass plus Dave O’ Saucer and the Cliffsta helping out with vocals.
There was a call on a Vicrock post to give Jump & Jive a warm “Rockin’ the Gully” welcome as this was their first gig at the 'G' … well … the number of punters that showed up was phenomenal. You should all be congratulated. The place was chockers!
Jump & Jive were so grateful, especially lead man Sammy who told the crowd how nervous he was to play the FTG Hotel for the first time, even though he’s visited the place on a number of occasions.
By the end of the day, the applause they received, assured Sammy & the boys that they were accepted into the congregation of the “Church of Rock”.
Well done Jump & Jive. You will be back at this venue as the punters demand!
Check out a taste of the day below. Jump & Jive playing a self-penned number by Sammy.
