Sammy Depetro with friends Kaleidescope rocked Lancefield on Saturday night (18thOct). 105 people packed into the hall with only two tables of non-dancers that I could see, but some of them gave it their best shot anyway. There was terrific out of town support and much of it was due to the advertising power of Vicrock and the goodwill of members. Macedon Ranges Rockers put 18 bums on seats and it was the debut dance for our young crew of beginners. They had a fantastic time and came away feeling very confident and ready for future dances. R'n'R is a great confidence booster and it is always so nice to meet the many pleasant, helpful, encouraging and non-judgmental people who indulge in this pastime. I spotted folk from the Rail Rockers, Bendigo Jailhouse and Rockin 50s, Renegades and Seymour. I'm told there were more.
...and how about that supper and those spectacular cream finger thingies, with real cream?
Sounds like you guys had a ball. The secret's out -country dances are great fun, guys!
Talking about supper - Yes, from my personal experience I maintain country people serve the best supper. When I was playing sport a few years, our "city slickers" opponents would serve the most lousy supper like lukewarm pies and cold pizzas. But the country folks, even if they were thrashed on the night, would serve up the most magnificent banquet with hot soup, freshly bake cakes, scones with lashings of cream and strawberry jam, hot pies and rolls etc
