After a long procrastination for close to 3 years, I finally made the trip last Friday to Clive’s Northside rock & roll dance at the Heritage in Epping. Over the years, I have heard so many good reports about the Northside dance. So really I have ran out of excuses not to attend and to experience it myself.
The dance as usual was well attended. Yes, it was a fairly cool autumn night but once inside, it was hot, hot, hot with a hot band, hot music and hot dancing. The Vincents kept the dance floor busy the whole night with their renditions of many of the legendary 1950’s rock & roll music. The band was well complimented on the night by DJ Flash and his very danceable, rockin’ tunes in addition to providing customary music for the progressive Cha Cha, rock & roll waltz and other line up dances.
And what are my impressions of the Northside dance? Upon arrival, one cannot miss but coming across Clive and his business partner both splendidly dressed in their dashing red jackets. They were warmth and enthusiastic in greeting the patrons and one couldn’t get a better welcome from these two hosts. Parking spaces are plentiful so that’s a big plus for the venue.
The venue itself is fairly impressive in my opinion. The tables are strategically arranged, almost in a semi circle, as if hugging the dance floor and giving a good view of the band. This I believe adds to the cosy atmosphere despite a fairly large venue. The sound acoustics is second to none and therefore makes dancing or just listening to the band a pleasure. The bar is well stocked and priced to satisfy your every thirst and delight. And what I thought about the dance floor? Well, there is a large “sunken” rounded dance floor which magnifies the feeling of one’s presence when dancing. No, it didn't make me a better dancer on the night but I have to say if you are a dancer, you cannot but feel impressed and therefore enjoyed your dancing there.
Yes, it was a long trip from home for me and a GPS navigation guiding system for the car would have come in pretty handy last Friday night. I did lose my way returning home not once but twice LOL. Nonetheless, I was still a happy chappy having enjoyed my time dancing at Northside.
Thanks Northside for a good night of music and dancing ........
