Just like life itself, the saying that “all good things (and good times) must come to an end one day” usually rings true. It's sad nothing lasts forever and Lyndon’s Shadoogie is finally closing its curtain with its last show in Melbourne tonight at the Dandy RSL.
But it’s wonderful news to punters that Shadoogie as an entity and a performing band may not be over just yet. Lyndon has hinted that he intends keeping the Shadoogie’s name. And also the chance for future band re-unions and performing at the planned Merrimbula’s R&R festival.
Shadoogie has been one of Australia’s premier 1950’s R&R bands, and very well deserved if I may say so. You guys have rocked Melbourne & many other places for as many years as I have been introduced to this scene, and Shadoogie have been around a lot longer before that. Thanks Lyndon & the Shadoogie boys for all the good rockin’ times. Love your music and love dancing to it!
I wish you & Kerry a very happy “retirement” up in sunny NSW South Coast. But knowing you, I doubt very much you will indeed be retiring. More like a strategic retreat to rest up and planning for more exciting projects ahead!
And good luck to Darrel in whatever he plans to do next. I know Billy will carry on the fine tradition in rockin’ Melbourne punters, so it will be quite exciting to catch “Billy O’Neil & the Headliners” in their debut gig soon.
Thanks very much for your kind words Paul and thanks also for coming along to the RSL for our final Melbourne Gig.......I am not sure who was the most entertaining between Biily and I transversing the lounge on the tables, or you doing the "Jitterbug".
It was a fantastic night due to all those that came along and Charlie's splits will hardly ever be forgotten.
Your are correct Jitts, we will be organizing an annual Rock and Roll Festival in Merimbula hopefully in 2010 and Shadoogie will be participating in the event along with some reunions in between with a bit of luck...Not to be confused with the current Holiday maker's Saphire Coast day hosted by Franky J Holden. This is a 70's Rock festival, unlike ours which will be 50's and early 60's, but may well include our good friend Frank if he is home in town at the time.........Merimbula is only about 6 hours drive, or 40 mins by air, so if you are coming up, give me a bell and I will collect you at the airport in the hotrod.
Cheers and a Happy New Year to everyone from Shadoogie.
Lyndon
PS...Don't forget to check out "The Headliners" at their first gig for 2009 at the Dandy Workers Club on January 9th.
Our final night at the Warragul Downtowner Club was a blast and it was just fantastic that so many of you came along to share the night with us.....For those 50 or so on the waiting list that were not able to be there to see a grown man cry, we are so sorry that you missed out but thank you anyway for wanting to be a part of the celebration.
Thank you one and all for your support over the past decade and a special thanks to the long list of very loyal participants in the Shadoogie camp such as David and Annette, John and Joan, Brian and Joan, Paul and Marie, Paul and Nola, the Dodgie’s, Allen and Violet, Richard, Linda and the Thunderbirds Rod and Custom Club, Rowland, Joe, Kevin and Carol, Chris and Lynn, Wilhamina and Ian, Steve and Vanda, Peter and Roz, Domonic, Jeanette, Robert, Bill and Anne, Cliff and Yvonne, Les and Sue, Sara, George, Paul(Jitterbug),Barry and Ann, Mark and Lucy, Don, Gordon, Ashley, Jeff and Sue and so many more that also include all the regular Freeway Rock supporters along with our friendly DJ’s and members of all the other great bands participating in our fantastic and versatile Rock and Roll scene.
There are many of you that have made it an absolute pleasure to be a Shadoogian that include a host of people from the regional areas of Victoria such as Geelong, Bendigo, Shepparton, Deniliquin, Barham, Morwell, Traralgon, Warrigal, Sale, interstate venues and heaps of you that travelled to a lot of these places with us. In fact I think the Harro's Hoppers turned up at more gigs than we did.
Many of you have become good friends and will always remain in our hearts as we concentrate our efforts on a Merimbula version of Wintersun where we hope to see you all again one day.
When Terry, Darryl, Fred and myself first started Shadoogie to fill the void for a Rock and Roll band that you could Dance all night too, we never thought it would end up being so much fun and when Bill joined up, well, what can I say apart from I am really going to miss you mate…. And Gavin, thanks for also brightening up my day with your pumping bass and good humour and stepping in so well after Terry moved on.
Finally, if you have enjoyed Shadoogie, keep an eye on www.shadoogie.com.au where any reunion dates will be posted along with information about the upcoming Merimbula Rock and Roll annual festival and the progress of the hotrod for those that are interested.
On behalf of Kerry and myself, good luck, good health and may you enjoy many great nights ahead with Bill and “The Headliners”
