good review of the meltdown at the ferntree gully today shano, and for those out there lookin in,but yet to taste good local talent, the line up started with ,louis king and the liars, the staunch billy band, the flyin saucers, shane and the black hill ramblers, the mighty detonators, cliffy and the atomic hi tones, the bluesy cruisey, low riders, and from the north,up in new castle, the retro rockets, and the young fire birds to finish off what was a great day and night, and a massive turn out of youngish, oldish, melbournians and id say a few out of towners, what a culture we have here that just gets bigger, and steeper into the very roots of rockabilly itself, with clothing stalls, record and cd stalls, then for entertainment between, band changeovers,a rockabilly comp for males who like dancing with themselves!a be bop alula dance comp, tattoo comp, some classy work around, but most, too modest to get up on stage!(me,not)the ones that did, well done gals and guys!a shared first prize between contestants,1(bloke)and 7,(gal!)shoud be a regular fixture now!,what else?oh,a fashion parade!fine gals, giving us a glimpse of what our mothers dressed like back then?i wont say when...then,the dance floor packed all nite, well done again, cliffy, maryanne and helpers ,bring on the next one!ps,have to mention all the classic cars, rods, and motorcycles, parked outside, classy!!!

We didn’t get to the Meltdown until later in the day, although I did drive past in the afternoon and the carpark was buzzing with plenty of cars and people milling around taking in the atmosphere.

By the time we arrived for the music the pub was full and Oh What a Night - Oh What a Meltdown!! The Ferntree Gully Hotel is a perfect venue for these events, when the main section is opened there is heaps of space and our revered “church” still served food etc and you could sit in Flanagans bar to talk and eat. A good number of stalls and everyone I spoke to said they had sold plenty and had a good day.

We had a ball, the music was exceptional and GAG did a fabulous job as MC. Cameron from the Retro Rockets said he loved Melbourne and wished they could come here every week

Thanks to everyone involved in putting this event together - How fortunate that we can be in Melbourne every day!!

    Thumbs up Re: The Meltdown

Well said Essex, yes we are very fortunate to live in Melbourne, all of our Melbourne bands are second to none, we are so very lucky, and with Maryann & Cliff putting on these events for "our" pleasure, we are extremely lucky,
They put in so much hard work & dedication to give us all, the very best Rockabilly, that Melbourne has to offer.
Congratulations Maryann & Cliff on another fantastic Meltdown day, & thank you...
A big thank you to the Retro Rockets... we love you.

The RETRO ROCKETS - 'Baby Did a Bad Bad Thing' filmed at the Meltdown 2008. Especially for HotRodGirl & Shane. I gotta say, the Retro's are as much gentlemen as they are talented. A pleasure to interact with.
