Thumbs up Cold Snap To Hit Bendigo!

WATCH out local music lovers, a Cold Snap is approaching.

The Melbourne five piece high-energy Rhythm and Blues Revue is set to play the fourth Bendigo Blues and Roots Music Festival fundraiser at the Goldmines Hotel on Saturday, June 25.

Cold Snap, headed up by the husband and wife team of Joe and “pint-sized powerhouse” Sonia Valenti, is the kind of band that produces a sound that instantly demands your attention.

“We draw our inspiration from other husband and wife teams, but our favourite would have to be the Ike and Tina Turner Revue,” Joe says.

“Their Rhythm and Blues Revue is probably one of the best that has ever been, and we’d really like to aspire towards that.”

Although based in Melbourne, Cold Snap have been practically adopted by Bendigonians, having played New Year’s Eve shows in Hargreaves Mall the past two years, and performed at the Rock and Blues Festival over the Easter weekend.

“Each time we perform in Bendigo we make new friends and fans, which is what it’s all about,” Joe says.

“We feel privileged to be part of the inaugural Bendigo Blues and Roots Music Festival and want to do whatever we can to help make it a success.

“That’s why we’re heading down this weekend to be part of the fundraiser to do all that we can to make sure that it comes to fruition.

“Bendigo has been great to us and we would love to see it have its own dedicated festival focused on Blues and Roots music, we would love to see it go from strength to strength over the years and become a permanent fixture in Bendigo’s events calendar.”

Cold Snap’s modus operandi is simple. “It’s about pure entertainment,” Joe says.

“There are a lot of blues bands out there that either have a male vocalist or female vocalist up front and everyone else is just standing there waiting for their solos.

“With Cold Snap, we have both a male and female vocalist sharing singing duties. Brian our guitarist also plays Tenor sax, and Sonia also plays alto sax, so throughout our show Sonia’s either belting out a song, or picking up the sax and playing horn lines with Brian.

“Then there’s times where I put my guitar down and Sonia and I sing together... you never know what’s going to happen next.”

The “straight ahead house-rocking Chicago Blues” of Cold Snap have become festival regulars across the state, including the Eltham Jazz and Blues Festival, Homestead Blues Festival, Mt Beauty Music Festival and Anglesea Music Festival.

Cold Snap will also perform at the Gold Dust Lounge at the Shamrock Hotel after their festival slot.

This Saturday 25th June Cold Snap head up to Bendigo to perform at the Bendigo Blues & Roots Music Festival Fundraiser at Goldmines Hotel from 6pm-6:45pm. This fundraiser features 18 live acts across 3 stages for only $10 entry. The purpose of the event – it’s a fundraiser for the actual Festival, which will ultimately be held in Bendigo in the last weekend of November.

Cold Snap will then head straight to the Gold Dust Lounge for a “One Night Only” show that kicks off at 8pm, with free entry all night.

Here's what they had to say after our recent shows at the Bendigo Rock & Blues Festival over the Easter weekend...

"Cold Snap were sensational as always. Rocked up a storm in Bull Street as part of Bendigo`s Rock & Blues Easter celebrations. Sonia you guys are FUN!!! I love the fact that besides being fine musicians, you also put on a show that really entertains. Just love the way you have fun doing what you do and the way you invite the audience to share in that fun. I`d find it hard to believe that anyone could come to a Cold Snap show and not leave with a smile; thanks for visiting us in Benders and making a lot of people very happy with your good vibes. Every time you come to Bendigo you make so many new friends and fans. Some of the comments I`ve heard today alone are ``Great show/lovely people/white hot/true professionals/wow!” This is coming from the people who did the audio, audience, fellow muso`s and event organizers".

Talented musicianship combined with amazing vocals up front by this husband and wife team certainly set Cold Snap apart from many others in their genre; and their chemistry on stage is simply amazing.
