    My Dad

Thank you for your kind wishes on the loss of my Dad. It is at times like this that I especially value being part of the R'n'R community.

He was an honest and sincere man. Despite the on-going pain from war wounds that he carried every day, from age 21 to 85, he was a good father and he made a real contribution.

    Thumbs up Re: My Dad

Rob I know how you are feeling. It seems not only do we share the same birthday, we now share the same loss...I lost my dad 2 days before Christmas last year. He was also 85 and an RAAF man. He was one of nature's gentlemen, and was so proud of each of his 5 kids, so matter how minor our achievements in life. He has left quite a large hole in our family, as he was the one who usually brought us all together, laughed till he cried, and gave the BEST hugs ever! My mum and dad were married 57 years, so my mum's grief has been all-consuming. But we try to keep her occupied as much as we can. Nobody will replace him though.
So cherish the memories, cos he does live on that way. I know my Dad's sayings come out of my mouth all the time...and friends often laugh because they are the 'ol digger variety, like "S0 'n so shut his fist today", or "If you can't be good, be careful" etc...
May he live on in your heart forever.
    Take care,
    Maree (MsM)

Rob, I'm sorry to read of your loss. In life, Dad's are our rocks, they teach us everything. He'll be sadly missed, I'm sure. Gone, always loved and never forgotten.

I lost my dad in the same week as Elvis died. The media went ballistic ... but all I could think about was my loss. He's name was Tony .. what was your dad's name Rob?

Sorry to hear about your dad Rob. I was one of the lucky ones who had a wonderful father too. Its such a huge loss to lose them no matter what age. My dad was a great granddad too. He would catch the train or fly down from Mildura just to baby sit for me.

On behalf of my family and self Rob my offer of condolences to you Rob & your family. Lost my dad only a couple of years ago, a real family man, only 73, fit and strong to be struck down by legionaires - I dont think you ever get over the loss. Our thoughts are with you Rob and we share your pain.

Hi Rob, so sorry to hear of your sad loss. Your dad sounds very special and it is not easy to lose someone you love.

No words can help really, but I hope it is comforting to know that so many people are thinking of you at this time.

    Rob,
Sorry to hear about your loss. I too lost my Dad on the 15th June. His name was Jock and a great man. He was sick for the last 15 months and that's part of the reason we coll our radio show "Rock Therapy". Always remembered.

Im sorry to hear about your dad too RobE. Its time like this that we think about our own mortality and realise that for most of us babyboomers, If life was a fuel gauge we would be down to 1/4 full .We are replacing our parents and our kids are replacing us ... The progressive cha ..cha of life..

    Re: My Dad

Guys, I posted this to thank the people who had already said nice things and then you all sent me such moving messages. I must admit that every new message I read made me sniffle again - but in a good way.

Not to single anyone out but there were some questions.

Jazza - His name was Robert Bruce Ewart, same as me and my oldest son (who is RBE the 8th).

Kempy - Dad was awarded the OBE for his services to Partialy Blinded Soldiers. As a Duntroon graduate he would have ended up a General if the shrapnel had not got him, so he became a Physiotherapist instead. The family knows that the Last Post at the service tomorrow will really get to all of us.

Kane - Maybe the local version of that is a whispered "Dromana".

(Now I am closing this thread, because I can, lets get back to R'n'R, bands, gigs, dancing and other interesting topics, such as the Hairless Mole Rat.)
