Pakenham GOOD FRIDAY APPEAL
IÂ’ve started a new thread out of respect for the Ferntree Gully Hotel Appeal
Firstly Where ever you choose to go on this DAY remember it is all for the same REASON.
The 10 Bands names have gone into print on a FLYER today (thanks go to the Printing Company who donated their printing services)
The Pakie is shaping up to be a wonderful time indeed we have assorted food vans available (including fish). Hot Rod roped off area, trophies for rods, and memorabilia on display. Some TV coverage during the Appeal. Children under 16 free, play ground close for the kids to enjoy. Raffles during the day and night. DJ Dingo and DJ Jeff Poole will be spinning some mighty fine tunes during the band breaks. Including a very Special Surprise MC for the day this man is talented witty and loves kids.
The Band times will be posted in due time.
So where ever you may go remember to give, give, give for the KIDS

Might even go and have a squiz me self, me thinks..
Oh and good luck to all that are holding dances on that day,
It doesn't matter who's doing what, the kids will benefit.
This is a great opportunity for the rock n roll community to come together as one, this will allow all to see how insignificant those recent issues really are
We've had some more people come on board today, to give so they may grow,
Thankyou to the SES for not only roping off the Hot-Rod area they are now also going to light the area as well for the night.
Also we now have face painting for the kids, non alcoholic drinks will be available. This is a BYO venue so don't forget to put your ESKI in the car.

I'm not sure I understand why the rock'n'roll scene needs another Good
Friday appeal when we have had one going each year for some time. As I
remember its at the Waltzy and last year was absolutely huge! It seems a
shame not to have one great big night when it is all for the kids. People
shouldn't have to choose which one they go to when we are all supporting
the same thing.
Considering this year it is at the Furntree Gully Hotel, it makes sense to support
the venue that has been supporting us with live bands for quite some time
now. For those interested in doing this for Charity, perhaps a committee
or consensus could see the event being run at one venue so that all the
punters could be at one place, just like we were last year.
Why aren't we uniting as one for the good of the children and for the good
of the rock'n'roll scene? Seems another case of widening the already deep
division and making it about personalities again such as which group is
running what. I may be wrong but it just seems like tit for tat to me.
Sorry hotrodgirl, the traditional nature of the Good Friday appeal is that there's functions taking place all over Victoria.. if one dance for example raised $1000 and another dance out of town raises $1000, is that different than one dance raising $2000? I'm sure the RCH don't mind receiving $2000. I think you're tit for tatting a bit...
I agree there Steveo, last year there was more than one dance as well i went to 2 of them the other one was a little to far for me .
Both dances were great and as you said what does it matter as long as money is raised , its not a competition its a fundraiser for a very good cause....
Hey Hotrodgirl, can you tell me what difference it makes if one venue makes lets say $2000 for the Appeal or both venues make $1000 each for the Appeal..... It still goes to the Kids!!
Im sure there will be many clubs doing something for the Appeal on the day not just the Gully and Pahenham.
The straight8s as everyone knows has been banned from appearing at the Gully so we have no choice but to donate our time at Pakenham.......
The banning was unfortunate and I understand it was the venue that did the banning. I also thought that Cliff and Victor were working together to have that sorted out? I hope it gets resolved.
I also wasn't aware that there was more than once dance on last year as I was at the Waltzy along with about 200 other people!
Hey Sue,
Thought I would mention that putting Victor and Cliff on this thread is a bit off topic.
Remember GOOD FRIDAY is about raising money for the KIDS is it not!!!!!.
Back to thinking about the APPEAL would be a healthy suggestion I feel.
Snappy
They called it Rockabilly long before they called it Rock and Roll!!
Guess I'm well aware of that Snappy, but considering you mentioned the banning and have done so previously in a band announcement, I think it only fair that the viewers of this forum know who was responsible for the banning.
We WERE talking about the kids, Jeannie, not about bannings to begin with so I'm not drifting too far off topic.
hmmmm still dont know what our previous band announcment has to do with this thread and why you feel that it is your responsiblity to let the viewers know who bannned who.....Nor do i understand your reference to Jeannie????
Lets stick to the subject of raising money for the kids!!!
Snappy
They called it Rockabilly long before they called it Rock and Roll!!
I'd like to know why there is concern for two Good Friday gigs.
On any given Saturday night there are heaps of rocknroll gigs and dances happening and ALL OF THEM support the scene in their own way... People survive!
There needn't be a monopoly on doing a good deed for sick children...

Personally I like the fact that there will be four rock n roll venues doing the good friday for the kids, covering all melbourne.
Great to have a choice.

Bt and Lisanne: Both points are very true. I believe Little Maria's hosts a Good Friday Appeal gig each year as well. The best thing is to have Appeals all over Melbourne, give people a choice and ease the distance they have to travel to have fun and raise money for the RCH. Some venues are family friendly, some venues are Hot Rod friendly, most might be smoke free....as long as everyone gives generously at the events they attend then everyone will be happy for a job well done by ALL organisers and volunteers of the Good Friday events going on around Melbourne and Victoria.
