    Greazefest Brisbane 2016

Lori Lee's Greazefest Brisbane hosted the 1950's style Australian Kustoms, Rods, Retro Fashions & Rockabilly event for the 17th year running on the weekend at a brand new location at the Cleveland Showgrounds. A fantastic venue I must say with a huge ground for customs & rods display, merchandising and food vendors plus a covered stage for live bands, dancing and Miss Pin Up competition. As usual, Brisbane put on the Ritz ....I mean, the brilliant sunshine in welcoming everyone to its annual "rockabilly" extravaganza.

Live music and dancing started on Friday night with bands including Twang, the Detonators & Miss Teresa & the Ryhthmires playing to a packed dance floor all night. The Kustoms cars and Rods arrived on Saturday morning and more arrived on Sunday which I estimated to be over several hundreds cars on display. There was the usual 1950's merchandise stores and food vendors plus rides for the kiddies. It was a weekend not only of a gathering of rods lovers, 1950s fashion and rockabilly aficionados but also where the whole family can come together to enjoy the cars, music, dancing & festivity. There was also a Miss Pin Up competition and a specialty 1950's barber and Pin Up & styling booths.

There were 3 overseas acts this year - the Rhythm Shakers and Ruby Dee & the Snake Handlers from the USA and John Lewis from Wales supported by the Jalopy Demons boys. There were also bands from Melbourne (Detonators, Hank Jalopy, Double Black & Cherry Divine), Sydney (Flattrackers & Pat Capocci) Darwin (Koffin Rockers) and a host of local rockabilly favourites from Brisbane including Twang, Little Billy, Sugarshakers, the Hi Boys, ERT Trio and Cruisin' Dueces.

Good catching up with rockabilly friends from all over Australia including a contingent from Melbourne, Sydney and Perth. The weather was great all weekend and so was the music on offer. The dance floor was probably smaller than what was offered during last year's Redlands Rockabilly Revival but nevertheless it was a very good dance floor. And of course, it was packed most of the time when the music was just right for dancing.

So the show goes on to Melbourne this weekend. It's Greazefest Melbourne to be held at the Sandown Racecourse on Saturday & Sunday with the opening night on Friday at Luwow in the city. Not to be missed if you love Kustom Cars, Hotrods, 1950's fashions, live music with overseas and Australian bands and of course lots of dancing ..... Rockabilly Rules!
