Perth Rockabilly Dancers visiting in August

    Hiya

My Hubby and I are heading over to Melb CBD next weekend (Sat 27/08/2016) and looking for some spots to see a good Rockabilly/Country Band and have a dance. I have already been put onto The LuWow and hoping to get some other suggestions that we can reach by train/tram.

    Cheers

Check out Honkytonk Rockers at Buckley Park Bowls Club, 111 Cooper St Essendon, $15.

Essendon's fairly close to the city and should be easily accessable by public transport.

Bookings essential to Sophy sms 0402402913

Luwow is a good choice and I think they have an Elvis theme on that Saturday night. There isn't really a dedicated "rockabilly/country" venue in the city unlike Perth where you might go to the Mustang on a Saturday night. I suggest you ring a number of venues around the city area to see what's on the night. Places to ring include the Dogs Bar in St Kilda, Cherry Bar, Gem Bar, Spotted Mallard, Brunswick hotel, Rainbow hotel & Retreat hotel. Note these venues have a tiny dance floor or just carpet if you want to dance. There are more to enjoy the music and have a dance or two. Same for Sunday. If you are really keen on dancing then Fast Eddies in Moorabbin (about half hour train plus a short taxi ride) from the city is the place to go. Huge dance floor and a very good jump blues band (the Jump Devils) are playing. It usually attracts a big dancing crowd from 7 to 10 pm. The other option is the Monash hotel in Clayton on Sunday afternoon from 4 to 7 pm where you are likely to have a "rockabilly" band playing. But you need a train and bus ride to get there which will take you around an hour.

Another update - huge rods and rockabilly gig on Sat night (27th August) at the Monash hotel in Clayton. Free entry with Twang from Qld and Itchy Fingers playing.

Then on Sunday, at the Sandown Park hotel in Springvale - another all day rods and rockabilly event. Entry is a gold coin donation.

Definitely worth checking out if you don't mind the travel distance....
