Make Use of Gig Guides, Please

We cannot attend your dance or gig if we do not know it is on.

Melbourne and Victoria is well served by free Gig Guides.

The one here on VicRock is excellent. Yes, you do have to be a Forum member, but there is no fee and you will not become a target for spam.

Listing as early as possible helps to minimise scheduling clashes.

Do not assume your "friends" on Facebook are enough to get the word out.

Even if your event has been running for years there will still be people who are first timers, so make sure to include all the details - date, time, where, how much, band, BYO or bar, contact for bookings, etc.

And, if it is a band gig in a bar, please make a comment about whether there is room to dance.

Last week we went to a pub we never go to and danced to a band we have never heard of. It was an excellent session, and we only found it by accident, and we were the only dancers.

Right now the long search for places to dance each week makes me feel like Sherlock Holmes.

Please use Gig Guides to build up your audiences and to make my life easier.

    Dear Rob,

We are Clover Bistro from Dandenong Workers Club. Our club has not been making good use of your gig guide so far ... Is that anyway that we can publish our list of monthly gig guide in your web? Does it come with a fee? We are currently publishing a full page advertisement on Rock & Roll News. It will be great if we can receive more information about how to make better use of your gig guides for updating our monthly gigs to our patrons. A million thanks for all the superb help, guidance and support!

    Joceb,

Thanks but it is Mel who provides this most excellent site.

The VRRDA recognised the value of Mel's ongoing contribution to the Rock'n'Roll dance community by inducting him into the Victorian Rock'n'Roll Dance Hall of Fame.

PS: Jitterbug and me are just his minions. And Jitterbug works much harder than I do. As moderators we check on the appropriateness of what is being posted. Just to keep things nice.

Thumbs up Re: Make Use of Gig Guides, Please

    Amy,

Using the Rock'n'Roll News is a good tactic.

Adding your info to the VicRock Gig Guide will help to spread the message further.

As you are already a VicRock member all you have to do is:

    1. Log on.
    2. Click the Gigs/Events Calendar button on the top of the page to go to the Gig Guide.
    3. When you get to the Gig Guide click the "Add New Event" button (at the right, above the calendar).
    4. Type in the details, making sure you have selected correct date. Push the button and you are done. You can edit and update your calendar items by following the prompts.

Dandy Workers has been a popular choice for the Rock'n'Roll Dance community for a long, long time (even after the dance floor shrank and the number of tables was reduced). A big thank you to all those who help make this such a good venue.
