Well, another weekend of competition, dancing, music AND great sunny weather in Tassie!

We headed down to Launceston for the Inaugural Tasmanian Rock and Roll Championships on the week-end hosted by SA Rock, with well known dancer and instructor Karen Abbott from Jitterbugz Dance Academy, the MC for the day and evening events.

On Friday night, a relaxed social evening was held at the Ravenswood Over 50's Club for the competitors, judges (from around Australia) and others to meet each other before the competition began the next day - no talking to the judges on competition day!

The competition started on Saturday morning around 10 am with 32 events consisting of Rock and Roll, Mixed Styles, Lindy Hop and Harlem/Slow Swing. The competition was fierce but friendly, with competitors from NSW, Victoria, South Australia and of course, Tasmania. After a long day of dancing, the daytime events finished about 3pm, with selected event finals being held on Saturday night.

After a rest (but not much) we headed off to the Saturday evening event where we danced to a great band from Adelaide called the Rhythm Cats. They played a variety of slow AND fast for those who thought they hadn't danced enough during the day events. During the band breaks, the finals were held to the delight of a large, enthusiastic crowd, some of whom had never experienced a Rock and Roll dance competition before. We were also treated to Karen singing with the band for a few songs - sensational!

Thanks to SA Rock, Karen and all those associated with organizing the event. It was a very well run competition and a great weekend of dancing was had by all. See you next year!
