    2015 Camperdown Rockabilly Cruise Festival

Another very enjoyable 1950's style music festival in Camperdown last weekend which is slowly but surely becoming one of the "must visit" events on the Australian live music events calendar. This year is my fifth trip to Camperdown and it just seems to be getting bigger and more popular each year. The trip to Camperdown now is also so much quicker and safer with the opening of new multi lanes highway all the way from Geelong to Winchelsea.

It is of course more than live music performance with overseas bands from the UK and USA as well as several inter-states bands covering a wide music genres from rockabilly, rock 'n' roll, blues, honky tonk and swing. There were hotrods and Kustoms classics on display, 1950's Miss Pin and fashion competition, merchandise and food stalls, barber and glamour make up shops, burlesques, dance classes and competition. And lots of dancing with non-stop live music performances starting on Thursday night and finishing late on Sunday night.

There were three music stages comprising the rockabilly room hosting rockabilly bands including those from overseas which were Dollar Bill and the Savage Hornets from the UK and the Rip'em Up from USA, the rock 'n' roll room which was popular with rock & roll dancers featured several Melbourne bands including Itchy Fingers, Billy O'Neil & the Headliners and Robyn & the Rancheros and finally, the Tiki Marquee featuring bands from various music genres. In addition, bands performed at the Commercial Hotel as well as the outdoor Clock Tower stage on the main street of Camperdown. Inter-state bands featured in this year's festival included TJ & the Twin Spinners, Lucky Seven and Lady Voodoo from Adelaide, A Band Called Twang from Brisbane and Pat Capocci and Danny & the Cosmic Tremors from Sydney. As always a delight to see many local Melbourne bands taking part in the festival such as the Straight 8's, Hank Jalopy Demons, Scotty Baker, Kieron McDonald, Ezra Lee & the Havoc Band, Cherry Divine, Moonee Valley Drifters and Matt Dwyer.

Weather wise, it was fantastic - mainly warm and sunny, although there was a brief shower on Sunday afternoon. As usual, the festival drew music aficionados from interstates, particularly from Perth, Sydney and Brisbane. It was very nice to catch up with friends again at the festival. Finally, well done to Arthur and his small team of helpers in organising and promoting Camperdown Cruise Rockabilly Festival. They are contributing in no small way in keeping our 1950's style music, dance and culture scene alive. Keep rockin' Camperdown!

Selection of videos below for your enjoyment. I have added a couple of the videos that were filmed by Celia & Josef from PerthRocks - thanks.
