The Mornington Peninsula is well known to local Melbournians and overseas tourists for fabulous beaches, picturesque landscape & views, pick your own fresh produce and many wineries offering excellent wines. But did you know also the Morning Peninsula is a very vibrant hub for regular live rock & roll music and dancing? There are now regular dance gigs held by Peninsula Rockers, Rosebud Rockers as well as CJ Rockers at various locations including Rosebud Italian Club, Rosebud Bowling Club and Eastbourne Primary School. You may well say the Mornington Peninsula really rocks!
In the past, I have attended dances with Peninsula Rockers and Rosebud Rockers. I am so glad to say that I now had the opportunity to finally attend CJ Rockers dance with the band, Who Was That Cat, last Saturday night. And what a great night of rock & roll dancing which was held for the first time at the Peninsula Community Theatre just off Nepean Hwy in Mornington. I really enjoy dancing at this large and comfortable venue which also features a huge wooden dance floor. Lighting inside is just right for dancing and the place just exudes a good vibe. There's lots of parking available too.
I haven't seen the band, Who Was That Cat, for quite a while and therefore it isn't surprising to see the band with some new members including the drummer, Artie Shuggs, previously with Atomic Hi Tones and also a new horn section featuring 2 sax/ harmonica musicians. Vocals are shared by different band members. I really enjoyed listening and dancing to this band and hope to catch them again very soon. The band plays very danceable music and its repertoire consists of mainly 1950's - 1960's rock & roll tunes with a few rockabilly tunes thrown into the mix as well.
It was a very good night of rock & roll with CJ Rockers last Saturday night. The band was supported by DJ Jeff playing many line up dancing tunes enjoyed by many rockers. The dance was well attended and organised and there was 1950's shoes and clothing merchandise on sale in the foyer. It was BYO everything however free tea and coffee on offer for everyone. Well done, CJ Rockers!
