"A new live music rockabilly venue opens this Sunday afternoon at Flanagan's bar, Pier Hotel in Frankston. Featuring the Detonators, Atomic Hi Tones and Itchy Fingers, it is very welcome news to all who love live music and dancing particularly at a time when Melbourne have seen the closure of several live music venues in recent times. And the news are not getting better as it seems more closures are expected in the coming months. Economic times are getting tougher in Australia with downturns in most industries and the entertainment industry is certainly not immune to it. Melbourne has been very lucky in recent years with choices galore in terms of bands and venues. Pretty obvious, we must support our live music scene or end up losing most of the venues one day."
Sadly, Flanagans is now closed for Sunday afternoon live rockabilly music. But it didn't stop the farewell party going gangbusters with Atomic Hi Tones, Jump & Jive and the Streamliners each taking turns pushing up the rockin' temperature with high octane but very danceable tunes. And coming together to jam in the last half hour which got the punters jumpin' and rockin' on their feet. Had lots of fun time in that venue over the last 12 months. Just a shame, it has to come to an end. But thanks to all the bands that played in that venue, the Jollys who were the promoters and of course Pier Hotel management in supporting live rockabilly music and dancing.
One door closes and hopefully another venue opens shortly. Let's support Sunday live rockabilly music and dancing. It's a music scene and tradition worth fighting for.
