According to Nine News Micawber Tavern has been left flattened, after a 21-metre eucalyptus tree came crashing down on the establishment at around 1.00am this morning. Staff and patrons were lucky to escape unharmed, with the Belgrave hotel closing just 45 minutes before the large tree came down.
Lucky no one was hurt

Do you think its appropriate to flog other venues while someone's business and people's livelihoods and a live music icon has been severely damaged and set back??

I am a frequent visitor of both Venues, Micawber and the Gully bowls Club,, They are my regular Venues,
Micawber first then the Gully,
Yesterday, It was Powelltown then the Micawber and then the Gully, A large group of us as well,
If it hadnt been Flattened, A large group of us would have been at the Micawber as usual, Last night, Just like every other Sunday night,
Johnno, the owner cant do anything about it, Its just one of those things that happen,
Four rock and roll bands have had their income stopped, Thats on the Sunday nights only,I am quite aware of that,
The other bands that play there during the week also have had their incomes stopped as well,
It effects a lot of people, and their incomes,
The staff are also out of work till the Micawber is back up and running,
Its fortunate that it was closed, only by an hour or so, Otherwise it would have had a lot of Fatalitys, With out doubt,
I live near there, Trees coming down are a problem, But we live with that, Same as the bushfires that threaten us every year,
Life does go on, And some of us dont want to travel 90 odd Kays to go to Frankston,
And Wesburn Pub has only been by word of mouth, For us living out here, Its local,
Same as the Powelltown Pub, Its also local to us,
But if it is not supported, No one goes, Its another venue closed to us,
Which has been happening, all to frequently over the past few years, Little Maria's, Georges, The Gully, The Monash, Mitcham RSL,
These are my local dances that have been closed down permanently,
So any support for any venue, I believe is welcomed, Not only by the bands, But the Management as well that pay to put the bands on,
Case in point, I know at least six people that didnt go to the Gully last night because they didnt think the Fender Benders were on,
Question, FWIW, Are you one of these people that go to the Free Dances and drink only water,
That does not support the bands or the venue, But it does close the venue down if the band isnt profitable, And the bands are out of work,
I dont drink alcohol at all, But I buy a few beers to support the band thats playing for my entertainment and for me to dance too,
Obviously, I have got it all wrong,
If ya not boppin, ya in ya coffin.
Rock and Roll will soothe your soul.
