Johnny Stingray & the Wanderers at Flipside Rock & Roll Dance
Another good rockin' night at Flipside's rock 'n' roll dance at Wantirna's Hungarian Club. This time with Johnny Stingray & the Wanderers, a band that I have heard so much about from other rockers but didn't have the opportunity to see them perform until last night. Melbourne is well blessed with so many good 1950's style rock & roll bands and over the years I have enjoyed listening and dancing to their music. And I am very happy to add Johnny Stingray & the Wanderers to my list of favourite bands after seeing their performance last night.
Johnny Stingray & the Wanderers are a 4-piece 1950's & 60's style rock & roll band covering all great artists of that period including Cliff Richard & the Shadows, Chuck Berry, Jerry lee Lewis, Eddie Cochran, Bill Halley & the Comets, Elvis etc but adding its very special brand of contemporary sound to those music we all love so much. You can dance to the band's music all night long or just sit back and relax with those rockin' tunes. The band's singer, Johnny Stingray, gives a very polished performance on stage and projects energy, charisma & appeal. Great rockin' performance guys!
As I said in a previous post, the Hungarian Club in Wantirna is just off the Eastlink Freeway. It's a venue which is quite centrally located for most rockers coming from different parts of Melbourne. And for some, using the Eastlink Freeway, just made it so much easier to attend the dance. It has a big dance floor and has good sound accoustics. There is also ample off the street parking at the venue providing ease of parking and security for those attending the dance. I also love dancing to Milton's music clips projected on the big video screen. Happy to add the Progressive Cha Cha was put on last night. I haven't danced the progressive Cha Cha for a very long time but I enjoyed doing it last night. There was also a special door prize to see Johnny Young, Normie Rowe and Colleen Hewett at Crown casino plus special prize for best couple dancing to Milton's music videos.
A fun night of dancing and entertainment at Flipside last night. The next band playing is the Speedsters so make your booking early with Milton and Sue from Flipside Rock & Roll. Keep dancing!
Re: Johnny Stingray & the Wanderers at Flipside Rock & Roll Dance
Great review as always Jitterbug. It's a great venue and the floor is so good to dance on. Good to see Milton also does birthday requests with the names on the screen so we all knew who we were singing happy birthday too. I really enjoyed the different music Milton played as well, as it's great to realize you can dance to music other than the 50's and 60's tunes that we hear all the time. I'm loving seeing all the original clips to go with the songs as it adds an extra dimension to my night out dancing.
