    Chromefest 2013

All the boxes got ticked once again for this fantastic HotRod/Rock'n'Roll/Classic/Beach/Rockabilly/General Public/Family/Market Event.
Organizers told us the town was flooded with 70,000 people over the weekend which equated to a significant financial injection into the town. Stall holders would have been pleased to see so many people in attendance.
Photos on Facebook say it all.

Chromefest takes place at The Entrance which is around 1 1/12 hrs north of Sydney airport by car with traffic or 1 hr south of Newcastle Airport. Its a holiday beachside town with loads of accommodation, caravan parks and weekenders overlooking the Pacific. Cafes are separated from the beach by a huge grassy frontage, paving, shade sales and sand. This area fills with market stalls, hot rods and people for the event.

The Californian Cruisin car club collaborate with the council to present Chromefest with support and representation from community groups.

Every event has a personality and this one is a colourful, festive, happy one with a lot of people checking out the cars and enjoying the music and culture. Bands are dotted around providing entertainment and atmosphere. There is a main permanent stage where a dance floor is set up, bands perform, pinups parade, trophies awarded and raffles drawn. The stage looks over the whole event and the ocean.

There are venues for night time dances and socializing and lots of restaurants
The weather was beautiful. Warm and sunny and not a bush fire in sight.

Both the Saturday and Sunday had a massive crowd all day till days end.

We drove up with our equipment and timed it to pick up our band members at Sydney airport Saturday morning, then dropped them back Sunday for a return flight at 10pm.

Andrea and Steve who run a dance at the Matraville RSL let us stay with them on the Friday night so we went up a day early.

The road to Sydney these days is a dream run. Duel double lane highway all the way with every town bypassed. Getting from the airport to the North Shore and out of the city is a bit of a pain and a tad confusing with the navigator saying one thing and signs another.
Driving up from Melbourne, you can bypass the city if you want by using their equivalent to our western ring road.

We got some interesting approaches for gigs for Cliff's band including people from a cuban style festival which I thought interesting. The guy said they like variety and liked what the band did and reckons they'd go down a treat. You never know who you are going to meet. I talked to people who had never been to anything like Chromefest before and had no idea the whole Hot Rod, Rock'n'Roll, Rockabilly world existed.
    All loved it.

I got sunburnt. I should have got some sunscreen from the St John Ambos.

Congrats to all concerned for all their achievements.
