A Good Dance is worth the time it takes to get there.
"Life may not be the party we hoped for... but while we are here we might as well dance!"
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort.
For those that don't have Flash player, It's a tribute to Robin Gibb ( "Bee Gees") RIP 20 May 2012 He's now resting with all these great performers that are dancing to his song "Stayin Alive"
The amazing, unforgettable Rita Hayworth! Rita's dad, Eduardo Cansino gave Fred and his sister Adele lessons in the 1920's! As Fred went onto say, they would rehearse the steps in the morning, and by mid afternoon, Rita was doing the routine better than him! Rita was a fabulous tap, ballet, jitterbug and Latin dancer! Rita learnt to dance from the age of 3, and at the age of 13, would cross the border into Tijuana to perform with her dad in the bars and casinos doing 2 shows a night. She made 2 musicals with Fred, and sadly that was it. Its nearly 25 years since her passing from Alzheimer's, but that sculptured face and graceful body still turns heads! Its a magical sight seeing her dance in these video clips, the memory lingers on, even though she is no longer with us. Never to be forgotten!!
Hey Roddek, thanks for the wonderful clips on one of my favourite Hollywood stars! My mum and dad adored Rita, and often told me that she was the dancing Diva of the 20th Century. There was Ginger, Eleanor, Cyd, Anne and a number of others, but it was the gorgeous Rita who captured the hearts of every man and woman in the 40's. WOW WOW! I am getting addicted to these clips..heeheh should be working instead!!Love to emulate those steps on the dance floor soon, would easily fit in with jive and swing routines. Have you got any clips of Rita, dancing jive or swing? Thanks once again to all who have contributed. Please keep this thread going. Rita relates to me, not trying to be vain, but my hair and looks come quite close..ehhehehhehee LOL...
Great stuff. Any idea what music they were originally dancing to?
On another note after seeing "I had the time of my life" at the end of a previous post, reminded me I saw a book yesterday that was celebrating 25 years of "Dirty Dancing", either this year or last year. Some fabulous dancing in that movie and now I need to go buy a copy and watch it again.
Hi Jo, I am no expert on the many styles, but being an expert and quite knowledgeable on Rita life!!!! ehheheheh ahahh ooomph!!!!! she loved doing the Jitterbug. Later on in life she did teach her daughters jive and swing. Not sure if you knew Rita never had a normal childhood, being a victim of incest, and also the sole breadwinner at the age of 13. Her father's family were great Spanish dancers, and migrated to the states at the turn of the century. He made Rita dance every day from the age of 3,and then when she turned 13,he would take her across the border and get her to perform in the bars, casinos and bordellos in Tijuana. In later years Rita did mention she loved to swing and jive, but her partners found it hard keeping up with all her wonderful moves and routines! The videos clips make her larger than life, and brings great enjoyment to our dancing life! Jo, hope this throws some light on Rita's dance style!! Cheers Roddek
